Token Fund
Every article, filing, timeline, and map here is built on AI tokens. The $463 a month in subscriptions is on me. The overage credits that keep the machine running the rest of the week are the ask: $1,700 a month, billed by the token at published rates. You buy the overage. I do the work.
Most of what the bottom gave me, I would hand back in a second. One thing I am keeping. I write everything down. Where the habit came from I have already put the numbers on this site. From my arrest in January 2021 to the pardon in…
Five different people came to my site this month, typed the word solitary into the search box, and found nothing. Not a bad article. Not an old article. Nothing. I know that because I own the search box. The question most site owners…
I write about my own healing on this site while it is still happening. Not after. During. Some people think that is a mistake. They think you wait until the story is finished, then you tell it clean, with the lesson tied on the end like a…

Some people wait until the whole structure is shaking before they admit one beam needs support. They wait until the bill is late, the deadline is missed, the room is silent, or the pressure has turned a manageable problem into a public…
At six in the morning on October 1, 1964, Japan put its future on the rails. The first Tokaido Shinkansen trains left Tokyo and Shin-Osaka in opposite directions. Ten days later, the Tokyo Olympics would open before a global audience. The…
A lead notification can feel like the perfect piece of marketing proof. There it is on the screen. A real person filled out the form. The phone buzzed. The system moved. The business has something concrete to show instead of another vague…

A convincing fake video can travel across Texas before a campaign finishes writing its correction. State law already recognizes the danger. It makes certain election deepfakes a crime. The question is whether the law starts too late.…

Some mornings begin with a lie that sounds responsible. You tell yourself today will be the day you catch up on everything. Every call. Every bill. Every hard conversation. Every project you delayed. Every promise you made when you had…
The engine was not the first steam locomotive. The technology was not perfect. The train was crowded beyond its official tickets, mixed passengers with coal, and moved through a world that still had reasons to doubt steam power. Then it…
The easiest automation failure to miss is the one that makes no noise. No red banner. No error email. No broken screen. The result simply does not appear. The report is not sent. The backup is not created. The lead is not assigned. The…
A worker can arrange child care on Sunday and lose the plan on Monday. A restaurant can prepare a schedule and lose three employees before the dinner rush. Both problems are real. Texas gives employers broad room to change work hours.…
Maybe today did not go well. The list stayed long. The call went sideways. You lost time you could not get back. Something important is still sitting where it was this morning. You do not need to call that good. You also do not need to…
The Constitution said there would be a Supreme Court. It did not deliver a finished court system. There were no federal district maps, no circuit structure, no number of Supreme Court justices, no operating schedule, and no complete…
Not every lead should be called today. Somebody is waiting for a lease to end. A budget opens next quarter. A spouse needs to be part of the decision. The project belongs after the busy season. The customer asked for a call on the first…
Signing up can take thirty seconds. Canceling can require a password reset, a buried menu, a chatbot, a retention offer, and a phone call during business hours. That gap is profitable. It is also the center of a fair policy question for…
Retirement planning gets complicated fast. One decision can touch Social Security, Medicare, taxes, estate documents, investment risk, monthly income, and the people who may have to help later. Longview residents have a free chance to…
My own dashboard told me 52 people read something on my site this morning. Thirty-seven did. The other fifteen were one machine, and it walked straight through the exact test I built to catch machines. Twenty seconds At 8:46:28 this…
Some answers arrive late. The application stays under review. The call does not come. The person you hoped would respond needs more time. The money is not ready. The door has not opened, but nobody has clearly told you it is closed. That…
Monday, October 5 is the last day to register. Early voting opens Monday, October 19. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. In Gregg County, the 2026 midterms come down to a few dates, 17 doors and the ID in your wallet. If you live in…
The tape is the tape. It does not care who is lying. It does not need a press secretary. It is the closest thing to proof of what happened, and it sits on a server until somebody asks for it the right way. Most people ask the wrong way.…
By Ryan Nichols No trial. No verdict. No conviction. Two brothers from Georgia were charged over January 6, pleaded not guilty, and walked out of federal court with the indictment dismissed with prejudice. With prejudice means it is over.…
The telescope did not begin the search. The numbers did. On the night of September 23, 1846, German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle looked into the sky from the Berlin Observatory and found Neptune near the position French mathematician…

American money says it is legal tender. That does not mean every private store has to take it. The Federal Reserve explains that no federal law requires a private business, person, or organization to accept currency or coins for goods or…
A spreadsheet class will not solve every employment problem in East Texas. It can remove one practical barrier. The City of Longview’s official calendar lists a free Basic Excel II class for Wednesday, September 23, from 9:00 a.m. to…
CORRECTED, same day. The first version of this article went up at 7:47 this morning. It said my own data could not tell me whether cutting my posting volume cost me traffic. That was wrong. The answer was sitting in my own tables. I had…

There is a page on donandpatti.com right now asking people for money. I built the site. Let me show you the part of that page that has nothing to do with missions and everything to do with running a business. It publishes one price down…
You have never seen your own business. Not once. You have seen the back of it every day for years. You have never walked in the front door as a stranger. That is not a knock. It is true of nearly every owner I talk to. You log in from a…
Somebody asked me a while back how I can say I have forgiven people and still keep my distance from some of them. Fair question. Here is the answer. Forgiveness and trust are two different transactions. Forgiveness is a decision…
For years I had exactly one report. I opened the banking app. If the number was bigger than last week, it was a good week. If it was smaller, I worked harder. That was the entire management system of Wholesale Universe. I believed it was…
Twelve people asked my business for help and got an answer back in two seconds. Five people asked the same business for help and sat there all night. Same company. Same week. Same form. The only thing that changed was what time the clock…
I had a stretch of days a while back where nothing bothered me. Not one thing. Bills came in. I read them. Nothing. Somebody said something sideways about me online. I read it. Nothing. My son made a noise in the next room that should…
Ask a business owner if he has backups and he will say yes. Ask him when he last restored one and watch his face. That pause is the whole article. Everything after this is just detail. A backup is not a file. A backup is a promise that on…
There is a directory on my own product that I built, and today it is teaching a lesson I did not design on purpose. Gideon Commerce has a section called the AI Exchange. It is a plain English directory of AI tools. Real pricing, pros and…

The number was 99 to 0. That sounds like the easy part of the story. It was not. On September 21, 1981, the United States Senate confirmed Sandra Day O’Connor to the Supreme Court. The official Senate nomination record shows the vote, the…

Texas opened its first Education Freedom Account application window on February 4, 2026. It closed on March 31. The school year is now underway, the program says more than 274,000 applications were submitted, and more than 100,000 awards…

Monday can feel less like a beginning and more like an invoice. The unfinished conversation is still there. The mistake is still real. The work you avoided did not quietly complete itself over the weekend. The thing somebody said may…
The chairs were ready. The films had arrived. The idea had a name and a place on the French coast. Then history changed the program. The first Cannes film festival was scheduled to begin in September 1939. Germany invaded Poland. France…
A quote can be accurate when it is sent and wrong when the work begins. The price did not necessarily change by itself. The scope moved. The customer asked for one more thing. A material changed. Somebody promised a faster date. A verbal…
Texas wants data centers to report how much water they use. The harder question is who gets to see the numbers. On September 14, 2026, Governor Greg Abbott directed state regulators to penalize data centers and other major water users…

The problem was not bandwidth. The computers were already connected. The messages were moving. Smart people at Carnegie Mellon University were using electronic bulletin boards to trade announcements, arguments, questions, and jokes. The…
Most website changes are tested in one direction. Does the new page load? Does the new button work? Did the new price replace the old one? If the answer is yes, somebody publishes it and moves on. That is half a test. The other half is…
A man called me and the first thing out of his mouth was that he did not know who else to call. Not that I was the right person. Not that I was qualified. That he was out of numbers. I know that call from the inside. I have made it. You…
Faretta Legal is something I built. It runs on Wix, not on the LeadFlow stack I use for client systems, and I say that every time I write about it so nobody thinks I am hiding the plumbing. This morning I read it the way a stranger would.…
There is a live demo sitting on my store page. You type rough facts about a situation into it and it shows you what those facts look like after they have been organized into an article with the source protected. Story, proof, what stays…
I went and read my own pre-order page this morning the way a stranger would. Two more people have paid for a book that does not have a ship date. That is the whole story and I want to sit in it for a minute, because it says something…
Texas already has a deepfake election law. That fact sounds more complete than the law is. The statute was written in 2019, before synthetic voices, images, and video became ordinary tools in political communication. It creates an offense…

The first grievance in my log is dated November 7, 2021. The answer came back fifteen days later. Two words. NON GRIEVABLE. The signature line says UNKNOWN. Read that again. The first time I used the only paperwork channel that building…
Friday night can make a convincing prosecutor. It knows every promise you missed. It can name the call you avoided, the work that came back wrong, the money that did not show up, and the conversation that followed you home. Then it asks…
I ran one query against my own database this morning. It is the kind of query I run for clients. I had never run it on myself. Here is what came back. Sixty-five leads. Forty-four of them have never been contacted. Read that again. Not…
Most service businesses chase repeat work with a phone call. They finish a job, wait a few months, then start dialing and hope somebody still remembers them. Lone Star Total Wash put the second job on the price page before the first one…
I went fishing this week and I did not keep a thing. Caught them, looked at them, put them back. Drove home with an empty cooler and a wet shirt and I felt better than I have felt in a month. That should not be complicated. For me it was.…

People keep handing me the word comeback. I used to take it. It sounded like something I was supposed to want. I do not use it anymore. What the word actually means A comeback means you go back. Back to the position. Back to the income.…
Yesterday I published a piece laying out the court record on Enrique Tarrio. They Convicted a Police Lieutenant Over His Relationship With Enrique Tarrio. Every claim in it carries a link. The central fact in that article is this: in…
X sent me the best reading day this site has had in a month. Twenty eight people landed on one page. Twenty six of them left from that same page without clicking a single thing. I did not lose them to a bad headline. I lost them because I…
For a long stretch of my life, my calendar belonged to other people. Somebody else picked the dates. Somebody else moved them. I would set my whole head around a day, get ready for it, brace for it, and then find out it had slid three…
I built this site so I could publish without asking anybody for permission. That part worked. Then I went looking for something I wrote in July and could not find it. Not because it was deleted. Because I had filed it under a name I would…
Wholesale Universe moved product. That was the part everybody saw. Pallets in, pallets out. Deals, loads, inventory turning over. If you had asked me back then what business I was in, I would have said the wholesale business, and I would…
RepWatchr has a page called Red Flags. On an accountability site, that is the page. That is the one people click. That is the one that gets screenshotted and passed around and argued about in a comment section at eleven at night. Every…
Guinness World Records says the longest any man has ever held a straight arm abdominal plank is 50 minutes and 4.58 seconds. That did not happen in Los Angeles. It did not happen in London. It happened in Longview, Texas. The man who did…
On September 8, Enrique Tarrio posted that I molested my own children. He used the word diddled. He put it in public, under his own name, with a verified check beside it. I am not going to spend this article on that, and I want to be…
On January 8, 2022 I filed a grievance because I could not get my mail. It got a number. It got an answer. It got marked resolved. Twenty-one days later I filed a grievance because I could not reach my attorney. It never got a number. It…
Most businesses give away the introduction. You have seen it a hundred times. The free thing is chapter one. The free thing is the overview, the welcome video, the part before it gets useful. Free is where you start, paid is where you…
I have a rule on this site. Nothing gets published without a share image. Not a suggestion. A rule. If you have ever posted a link and watched it land in somebody feed as a gray box with no picture, you know why. The writing can be the…
There is one item on my list that takes ten minutes. It has been sitting there three weeks. I am not going to tell you what it is, because the specific thing is not the point and you have one of your own. You already thought of it. That…
Everything I rebuilt, I rebuilt with a system. That is not a brag. It is closer to a confession. When I came back to the world with almost nothing, systems were what I had. I could not control the courts, the news, the internet, or what…
I ran a countdown to my own workshop for five days straight. Every post fired on time. Zero errors. The machine did exactly what I built it to do. Not one of those posts had a link in it. Read that again. I spent five days telling people…
People come to me wanting to automate something. Nine times out of ten, the thing they want to automate is not a task. It is a decision they have been avoiding. And a computer cannot avoid a decision on your behalf. It can only make the…
Every so often I meet somebody who has no idea who I am. No search result. No opinion already formed. No careful little look to see how I am going to react. Just a person asking me what I do for a living. I have gotten so used to the…
There is a thin bar across the top of my store page right now. It says Fighting Shadows, twenty nine ninety nine, get it. That is it. Four words and a number, sitting above everything else on the page. I want to tell you why a strip of…
Most businesses put the friendly number on the sales page and save the real one for checkout. Premier Dental Academy of Longview does it backwards, and it is the smartest thing on their whole site. The setup They run a free tuition…
On Saturday night I told thirty four people their book was coming Sunday. Sunday night it went. Monday morning I did the part almost nobody does. I went and looked at whether it landed. Six people had clicked. Two of those clicks arrived…
My folks run a free medical mission to Belize. Free clinics. Free medicine. Free reading glasses. Free Bibles. Thirteen years of it now, across five countries, every trip written down in order, including the years they could not go. I…
People ask me how I got through it. They ask it in messages. They ask it in parking lots. They ask it in the church foyer when they think nobody else is listening. For a long time I did not have an answer. I had a shrug. I had something…
I have built a lot of websites for other people. The first question I ask is never about the design. It is: whose name is on the domain? Most of the time the answer is a shrug, a guy first name, or my nephew set it up back when. That is…
Most people have never been to the bottom. That is not an insult. It is good news for them. But it means they are carrying around a fear they have never actually checked. They think the bottom is infinite. They think if they lose the job,…

Let me show you the difference between a website and software, using one page. A website tells you about a pallet. Software takes your spreadsheet, counts the pallet, prices the pallet, tells you how confident it is in the answer, and…
Here is a test you can run in ten minutes that will tell you more about who owns your business than any contract you signed. Try to leave. Not actually leave. Just try. Go into whatever platform holds your customers, your content and your…

RepWatchr is mine. I built it, I own it, and I am about to hand you the worst number on it. There are 8,914 official profile records in the directory. Of those, 8,615 have a source check date older than ninety days, or no usable date at…
Most systems store two dates. Created. Updated. Both of them tell you something about the database. Neither one tells you anything about the world. I touched a record last Tuesday. Good. Did I check it against the source, or did I fix a…
Nothing went wrong this week. That is the whole problem. I got up. I worked. Nobody called with bad news. No stranger said my name in a way that meant trouble. Six days of ordinary in a row, and by Thursday I was walking around my own…
Everything else I publish is aimed at somebody who can click on it today. One reader cannot. Thomas David was born August 4, 2026. He will not read a word of this for years. And when he does, he will not read it the way you are reading…
I filed a grievance because the food on the trays was rotten. The eggs were spoiled. That grievance never got a number. It never got an answer. Not a denial. Not a "non-grievable." Not a "we looked into it." Nothing. Four years later it…
I sell business systems for a living. Websites, funnels, CRMs, follow-up automation, the whole stack. So here is a strange thing to find sitting on my own site. There is a $197 product on there. One of the questions in its FAQ asks…
There is a paragraph at the bottom of my book page that almost everybody scrolls straight past. It is the least exciting thing on the page. It is also the reason I sleep fine. It says that Fighting Shadows is a first-person memoir and a…
Go look at my book page right now. It is at realryannichols.com/book. Up top there is a little price bar. It says launch price. Then it shows you 29.99 dollars. Then, right beside it, it shows you 29.99 dollars again. One of those two is…
I spent a long time waiting on a sentence. Not money. Not a ruling. A sentence. Somebody saying out loud that what they did to me was wrong. I could tell you how long I waited. I am not going to, because the number is embarrassing and…
I have 837 posts sitting in a queue right now that will publish themselves without me touching a keyboard. They run through October 23. Every single one of them is a different sentence. No repeats. Not one. I did not buy a scheduler to do…
Most businesses have exactly one move when somebody says the price is too high. Cut the price. It is the fastest move available and it is almost always the wrong one, because it does not answer the actual objection. It just costs you…

Labor Day is built around a public idea: sometimes the calendar should stop for something larger than the normal workday. That raises a fair question less than two months before Texans vote again. Should Election Day become a state…
A free tree is not a flashy public program. It is still one of the few giveaways that can keep working for a neighborhood long after the line is gone. The City of Longview's official calendar says residents can take home one of 150 trees…
I opened my own numbers this morning before eight and the top line said 480 visitors. I have spent two weeks telling you my traffic was on the floor. 480 would have been a good morning. It was not a good morning. 364 of those 480 were a…
You are allowed to stop. You are not required to become useless before you earn a chair, a quiet room, a slow meal, or one night without dragging the whole week into bed with you. But honest rest has a shape. It is not pretending the bill…
Most small business sites have three states. Read about it. Fill out a form. Pay. There is a fourth one almost nobody builds, and it is the one that actually moves people. Try it. Not a video of somebody else trying it. Not a screenshot…
Somebody asked me a simple question last week. What time were we heading out. I gave them a paragraph. I explained where I had been that morning, why I was running behind, what I had been dealing with, and how none of it was going to…
There are three ways to pre-order my book. I want to walk through what each price is doing, because I did not pick a single one of them by running a margin calculation. Fighting Shadows is my first-person account of January 6 and the…
There is a page on the Lone Star Total Wash site that most small service businesses never build, and the few that do usually build it wrong. It is called Jobs Completed. It is nothing but before and after photos of actual finished work.…
By Ryan Nichols The strange part of the first true self-service grocery store was not the food. It was the freedom to touch it. In the common grocery model of the early twentieth century, a customer gave an order to a clerk. The clerk…
By Ryan Nichols A free tool can earn attention because it does something useful. It calculates a number. It checks a risk. It grades a page. It helps somebody practice. It turns a vague problem into an answer the visitor can see. Then too…
By Ryan Nichols A job applicant's old paycheck can follow them into a new room before their skills get a fair hearing. An employer may see the same number as useful context. It can reveal the level of responsibility a candidate held,…
Most marketplaces hand you one number and dare you to argue with it. Thirteen percent. Fifteen. Twenty by the time the dust settles. And when you go looking for what that number is made of, you find a help article that says the fee covers…
Every business owner building a new site hits the same wall. The page needs content. The business does not have it yet. No testimonials, because you have four customers and you have not asked them. No case studies, because the work is…
I used to rehearse on the drive. Not the songs. The answers. Somebody was going to ask. Somebody always asked. And I wanted the sentence ready before the question got all the way out of their mouth. Short. Clean. Something that landed. I…
Comeback stories get written as one column. Things that came back. Capability first, then paid work, then routine, then the trust of a few people. Clean list. Reads well. Sells well too, which is part of why it gets written that way. I…
By Ryan Nichols Monday will not be a normal service day in Longview. The City of Longview says municipal offices and Longview Transit will be closed for Labor Day on September 7, 2026. The Longview Public Library is also closed through…
I kept a log. Every grievance I filed inside that jail. The date I filed it. The number they gave it. What it was about. Which step it reached. Whether anybody answered. Whether anything got fixed. Twenty nine entries. November 7, 2021…
By Ryan Nichols You can wait a long time for confidence to give you permission. It may not come. You may still feel unsure when the phone is in your hand. Your voice may still shake when you tell the truth. The first page may still look…
On September 5, 1977, Voyager 1 left Earth with a record attached to its side. Not a data log for mission control. A phonograph record for strangers. The spacecraft had serious work ahead. It would fly past Jupiter and Saturn, return…
Your homepage can appear fast and still feel broken. The logo shows up. The hero image loads. The speed test gives you a number that looks respectable. Then a visitor taps the menu and nothing happens. Or the button moves while the thumb…
The question is no longer whether insurance companies will use artificial intelligence. The Texas Department of Insurance says they already do. The question is what a consumer should be told when an AI system scores, routes, summarizes,…
Longview’s Christmas parade is months away. The work to get into it starts today. According to the official Downtown Longview AMBUCS Christmas Parade page, applications for the 2026 parade open September 5. The listed application fee is…
They sprayed the whole pod. Men were locked in their cells and could not breathe. I filed a grievance about it. Seven days later the answer came back in writing. "THIS IS A GROUP GRIEVANCE / NOT PERMITTED." Read that again. The plain…
You probably do not need a better speech from yourself today. You may not need a bigger goal, a cleaner planner, or a new system either. You may need proof. Not proof that you can fix your entire life before lunch. Proof that when you…
There is a stretch of morning in East Texas right now, early September, where the heat has not woken up yet. The water is flat. The bugs have not organized. The sky is a color that does not have a name and does not need one. I go out in…
I started Wholesale Universe on July 27, 2015. I was proud of it. I should have been. It was real work and it fed people. But I want to say the honest thing about it, because the comeback ledger is not worth keeping if I only put the…
Most accountability sites have the same problem. They will always give you a number. Thin evidence, missing votes, a record with holes in it, does not matter. Something gets published, because a page with a grade on it gets shared and a…
Here is a small thing that will quietly make you a liar on your own website. You put a number on a page. Six months later you put the same number on a different page. Then you change one of them. Now your site says two things. You did not…
They came to school. Nine teenagers arrived at Little Rock Central High School on September 4, 1957, after a federal court said desegregation would continue as planned. They did not walk through the door. The Arkansas National Guard…
Most contact forms end with one word: Submitted. That word tells the software what happened. It does not tell the person what happens next. Did the business receive the request? When should the person expect a response? Will the reply…
A resident walks outside for work and finds an empty parking space. The car was not stolen. It was towed from the apartment property where the resident lives. Maybe the permit fell from the mirror. Maybe the registration changed. Maybe…
Most agency websites show you a number when the number is good. Mine shows you the number whether it is good or not. The LeadFlow Pro runs a page called the Proof Floor at theleadflowpro.com/proof-floor. It is a live scoreboard that pulls…
Somebody filled out your form on Tuesday at 2:14 in the afternoon. You saw it Wednesday morning. You called at ten. They had already booked somebody else. You did not lose that job on price. You lost it on the clock. Here is what most…
Thomas David was born on August 4, 2026. That is the only detail about him that belongs on this website, and it is going to stay that way. He did not sign up for a public record. I did. But I am allowed to write about what a month has…
For a long stretch, quiet meant something bad was about to happen. That is what confinement teaches you. Quiet is the gap before the door opens. Quiet is somebody deciding something about you in a room you are not in. You learn to read…
Longview families looking for a free, supervised place where a teenager can spend part of Friday afternoon have a practical option today. The City of Longview has scheduled a teen esports game day at Broughton Recreation Center from 4:15…
I pulled my own numbers this morning before I did anything else. Seven orders since August 29. Six of them came from X. One came from Google. Zero came from Facebook. Read that again. Zero. The plain English summary I sell a book off my…
There is a point where accountability has done its job. You told the truth. You admitted what happened. You apologized where an apology belonged. You made the repair that was available. You changed the next step. Then you kept hurting…
The first item sold on the site that became eBay was broken. That was not a mistake in the story. It was the proof. In September 1995, Pierre Omidyar launched AuctionWeb after spending Labor Day weekend writing code on his personal…
Your website can load in a second and still feel broken. The phone screen opens. The headline is tiny. The menu stacks on top of itself. A form field runs off the edge. The visitor pinches the page, drags sideways, misses a button, and…
A renter can pay an application fee, submit personal information, wait for approval, and only then receive a written flood notice with the lease paperwork. Texas already requires notice in certain situations. The real policy question is…
Longview has a community benefit tonight that puts education and animal rescue in the same room. The City of Longview's official calendar listing says “Let's Glow Bingo” is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, at Maude Cobb Convention…
There is no locked release date for my book. I have that written on the page in plain English, right in the questions section where anybody about to spend money will run into it. There is no locked date yet. The manuscript, the editing…
It was cool enough this morning to sit outside without the fan. That is the whole event. That is the news. For a long stretch of my life, September was not a month. It was a set of dates that belonged to other people. Somebody else picked…
Premier Dental Academy of Longview trains registered dental assistants. It has a campus on Gilmer Road, a twelve week program, and tuition printed on the front page. It also publishes a free directory of 232 dental offices across 28 East…
Go look at the signup box at the bottom of my site. It asks for an email address or a phone number, and the label tells you to fill in whichever you prefer. That is it. One box. You pick which kind it is. That was not a design flourish.…
I filed seven grievances trying to see the evidence the government was going to use against me. Here is what my own log says came back. One answer said NON-GRIEVABLE. One answer pointed at a different grievance number. One answer said I…
Some prayers are answered by a changed situation. The call comes. The door opens. The money clears. The test ends. The relationship repairs. You can point to the moment and say, “There. That is when the weight moved.” Other seasons do not…
Six years of war ended with eight paragraphs and a line of signatures on a gray battleship. The ceremony did not need a full morning. It took 27 minutes. On September 2, 1945, representatives of Japan and the Allied powers gathered aboard…
Most automation demos show the happy path. A form arrives. A record appears. A message sends. A task moves. Everybody watches the clean run and calls the system finished. The real test starts when step three fails at 2:14 on a Saturday…
You can spend an hour tailoring a résumé, answer every question, and submit the application without knowing whether a person will read it first. An automated tool may rank it. A screening system may score the language. A video platform…
If you are charged with a crime in Texas, your lawyer can show you every page of the State's file against you. Your lawyer cannot give you a copy of a single one of those pages. Not paper. Not a PDF. Not a photo on your phone. And a judge…
Friday morning I had a forty five minute drive to a meeting I already knew was going to be hard. I am not going to tell you what the meeting was. It does not matter for this. What matters is what was on the radio. The song Christian…
A lead used to cost me fifteen to twenty dollars. This month the same campaign, same offer, same landing page, was costing forty six. Nothing was broken. That is the part that took me a minute to see. The setup I run paid ads for a client…
Hurricane season does not end in August. It gets serious in September. The National Hurricane Center puts the statistical peak of the Atlantic season at September 10. The water is at its warmest, the upper winds relax, and disturbances…
The letter came last Friday. I am not going to tell you what the claim was for. That is mine. What I am going to tell you is what the letter does not tell you in plain English, which is that a denial is not the end of anything. It is the…
Somewhere between one hundred seventy five thousand and two hundred twenty five thousand people once gave me their email address. They came through the ads I ran for years for my e-commerce business. Real people who wanted to sell online…
Most people picture running a company from a browser. Twenty tabs. Three dashboards. A CRM that loads in six seconds if you are lucky. I run mine from a black screen with a blinking cursor. I am going to explain why, and then I am going…
Thomas David Nichols is twenty nine days old today. I have done this before. Twice. I have two older boys and I remember the first month with each of them, or I thought I did until this one. Here is what is different, and here is what is…
It costs me almost nothing to build a five hundred dollar website now. I am going to say that out loud because most people in my business will not, and because the moment you understand it, you understand what you are actually buying from…
In late August in East Texas you fish at first light or you do not fish. By nine the heat is on the water like a lid. By noon the bass have gone deep and so should you. The window is the hour on either side of sunrise, and I have built a…
I am not going to describe it. I am going to show you the log. Because the minute I describe what it is like to go without a shower, without a restroom, without a way to cut your own nails, somebody calls it a sob story. And they are…
Longview residents have a direct chance tonight to hear and speak about how the city's animal shelter describes dogs, defines holds, and plans community resources. The official September 2 agenda lists a 5:30 p.m. meeting of the Animal…
A bad start can feel bigger than it is. You wake up late. You miss the first thing. You read the wrong message. You lose twenty minutes to anger, worry, scrolling, or nothing you can even name. Then the real damage starts. You decide the…
By Ryan Nichols At about eleven in the morning on September 1, 1859, English astronomer Richard Carrington was studying sunspots when two brilliant patches appeared. He hurried to find a witness. By the time he returned, the light was…
By Ryan Nichols A website can capture the lead perfectly and still lose the customer. The form submits. The confirmation message appears. The email lands in an inbox. Maybe the CRM creates a record. Everybody assumes somebody will follow…
By Ryan Nichols Texas has paused state-agency spending on one major license plate reader system. The cameras already installed across Texas have not disappeared. On August 28, 2026, The Texas Tribune reported that Governor Greg Abbott…
By Ryan Nichols Longview's National Night Out season begins tonight with a free public kickoff at Maude Cobb Convention Center. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, at 100 Grand Boulevard. The City of Longview calendar…
By Ryan Nichols Everything cannot be the emergency. That does not mean nothing is serious. It means you cannot give five different problems the same first place and still expect yourself to think clearly. The overdue bill wants attention.…
By Ryan Nichols The first solar car did not carry a family, win a race, or travel across a state. It was fifteen inches long. On August 31, 1955, General Motors engineer William G. Cobb demonstrated a small model called the Sunmobile at…
By Ryan Nichols Texas can let you renew a driver license online, update an existing voter registration online, and check whether you are registered online. For most people registering to vote for the first time, the last step still…
By Ryan Nichols Some problems get smaller with time. Most of the problems keeping you awake do not. The unpaid bill does not become easier because you stopped opening the envelope. The difficult conversation does not become safer because…
By Ryan Nichols The most famous red telephone in history was not a red telephone. The direct link between Washington and Moscow began as a written communications system. Teletype equipment carried messages across a cable route, with radio…
By Ryan Nichols Texas has changed enormously since 2009. The legal wage floor has not. Texas adopts the federal minimum wage, which remains $7.25 an hour for covered nonexempt workers. That number has been in place since July 24, 2009.…
By Ryan Nichols The promise felt easier when you made it. You were clear. You were tired of the same problem. You knew what needed to change, and for a few hours the decision carried its own energy. Then the mood changed. The morning came…
By Ryan Nichols The map had more truth than the rider needed. It showed geography. It showed distance. It tried to place a growing underground railway inside the real shape of London. That accuracy made the system harder to use. Harry…
By Ryan Nichols A generator can keep an exit sign lit while the building becomes dangerously hot. That sentence explains the gap in this debate. Texas long-term-care facilities have emergency-planning duties, and many have backup power.…
By Ryan Nichols There is a version of faith that people perform when they are afraid to tell the truth. They say everything is fine because they think admitting pain would sound ungrateful. They hurry toward a lesson before they have…
On August 28, 2026, twenty-four days before jury selection in my Harrison County case, I went to the office of my court-appointed lawyer, James M. Terry. I went there to review the State’s evidence, understand what was still missing, and…
By Ryan Nichols On the first official night, the system looked too large for the result. Federal Express had 389 team members and 14 aircraft. They moved 186 packages to 25 American cities. That is fewer than 14 packages per airplane. If…
By Ryan Nichols Texas is good at announcing the check. A college receives a workforce grant. Employers stand beside state officials. The release names the amount, the industries, and the number of people expected to receive training.…
I want to show the defense bar one line. Not a speech. Not a story. One line, written by the jail, on a grievance form, with a date on it. "INMATE WILL BE PUT ON DISCOVERY LIST." Dated June 2, 2022. Read it again. Not "the inmate has…
By Ryan Nichols Some people do not ask for help because they think they can handle the problem. Others do not ask because saying it out loud would make the problem real. So they wait. The payment gets later. The deadline gets closer. The…

By Ryan Nichols The drill stopped on a Saturday. It had reached 69.5 feet near Titusville, Pennsylvania. The work had consumed time and money, the company had lost patience, and the men operating the rig had not yet seen the result they…
By Ryan Nichols A roof can be old and sound. It can also be old and one storm away from becoming an expensive claim. Texas is moving toward a rule that would stop insurers from refusing to write or renew a residential property policy…
My business line took 36 robocalls in three days. Not 36 calls. 36 calls from the same campaign, using at least 35 different phone numbers, all in one area code. And here is the part that stung. My own AI receptionist answered them.…
By Ryan Nichols There is a kind of punishment that looks like responsibility. You replay the mistake. You keep the embarrassment close. You remind yourself what the bad decision cost. You refuse to feel relief because relief seems too…
The final act was quiet. On the morning of August 26, 1920, Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed the proclamation certifying that the Nineteenth Amendment had become part of the Constitution. The Library of Congress describes the…
Texas lawmakers have already said what they want: stop changing the clocks and keep daylight saving time all year. The clocks still change. That is not because the Texas law disappeared. It is because the state wrote a condition into it…
Some days are not going to become good days by noon. The energy is low. The plan is already behind. A conversation went badly. A bill, deadline, mistake, or unanswered message is sitting in the middle of everything. You can spend the rest…
By Ryan Nichols The sentence sounds simple until you try to obey both halves. Conserve the place. Let people enjoy the place. Leave it unimpaired for people who have not been born yet. On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed…
By Ryan Nichols A customer can spend ten minutes explaining a problem before realizing nobody human was listening. That does not make the bot useless. A good automated system can find an order, reset a password, answer a routine question,…
By Ryan Nichols Being needed can feel like proof that you matter. The phone rings because you are the dependable one. The message lands because you usually know what to do. The extra problem finds your desk because people have learned…
By Ryan Nichols On August 24, 1995, people lined up outside stores to buy an operating system. Think about how strange that sounds. They were not waiting for a concert ticket, a new car, or a game console. They were waiting for software…
By Ryan Nichols A yellow school bus can be one of the safest vehicles on the road and still become miserable in August. Those two facts can exist at the same time. Texas regulates school buses down to lights, mirrors, exits, seating,…
By Ryan Nichols Some excuses are lies. Some are facts. The money really did run out. The person really did leave. The opportunity really was unfair. The call really did come at the worst possible time. You really are tired. You really…

I pulled my own numbers this morning and they are not flattering. Since this site went live on May 17, it has served 36,390 page views. In that same stretch, 36 people gave me an email address. Thirty six thousand visits. Thirty six…
There was nothing on my calendar this morning. No call. No deadline. No drive. No filing due. Years ago that would have put me on edge before my feet hit the floor. An empty morning did not read as rest. It read as a gap in the perimeter.…
I have not done this yet. That is the first thing you need to know, and I want it sitting at the top where you cannot miss it. There is a whole industry built on telling you about a run after it worked. Somebody posts the finish line,…

Every quarter I sit down and write a ledger. Not a vision board. Not a plan. A ledger. A line only goes on it if the thing actually shipped. A number only goes on it if I can show you where it came from. Everything else is a feeling, and…
Every storm I ever worked, the plan died in the first hour. Every one. We would build it right. Maps, staging, assignments, comm plan, fuel, rally points. Good plan, built by people who had done it before. Then the water would come up…
The first hundred dollars Wholesale Universe ever made mattered more to me than any number that came after it. I am not going to dress that up. I do not have the invoice in front of me. I am not going to tell you the product, the date, or…
The default plan is four years. Four years, a campus, a major you pick at nineteen, and a bill that follows you into your thirties. Nobody ever put a second plan on the table next to it. So here is one, laid out week by week, with the…
A phone will teach a kid to scroll in about four minutes. Nobody has to sit with him. Nobody has to explain anything. It teaches itself, and it is very good at it. A fishing rod takes a lot longer. That is not a flaw. That is the entire…
2 Kings chapter 4. Seven verses. I have read them a hundred times and I still catch something new. A woman comes to the prophet Elisha. Her husband is dead. There is a debt she cannot pay and a creditor coming for her two sons. Elisha…
There is a place in Longview where the beans and the chili are free. Not free on Tuesdays. Not free with purchase of two entrees. Free. The Butcher Shop on Lehigh Street is a family owned restaurant, bakery and meat market. Their own…
I worked a storm. The show called. I went. That is the short version, and every word of it is true. Here is the longer one, because people ask me about the television part and almost nobody asks me about the part that mattered. What the…
Most businesses spend real money making sure you never shop around. This one published the instructions on how to shop him. Streety Plumbing sits out on TX-154 in Marshall. Licensed Master Plumber. And the license number is printed right…
The flag goes up before the phone comes on. That is the whole rule. It takes about five minutes. Unclip. Unfold. Hook the grommets. Raise it. Step back and look at it for a second. Nobody is watching. No one drives by and salutes. The dog…
I am here partly because a few men would not leave me alone. That is the whole thing. I could stop typing right there. But I want to say what it actually looked like, because I think most men want to check on a friend and never do it, and…
My son is named Thomas David. He will not remember this year. None of us remember the first stretch of our own lives. Somebody else has to carry it for us until we are old enough to hold it ourselves. So I have been thinking hard about…

Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast. Every Marine has heard it. Most of us heard it while doing something badly at high speed. It is not a saying about being slow. It is a saying about what speed actually costs. What rushing actually buys you…
Nobody claps for the follow-up. There is no applause for the fourth phone call. Nobody posts a screenshot of a polite second email. The follow-up is the least glamorous skill in business, and it is the one that built mine. The truth about…
Two bags. Twenty years apart. One of them I packed to go pull people out of floodwater. One of them I pack to go do business. Open them both up and the list is almost identical. That is not a coincidence. That is the whole point. The…
Every business I have ever built started ugly. Not with a logo. Not with a color palette. Not with a name I loved saying out loud. It started with plumbing. Intake. Follow-up. Records. Backups. The boring stuff. The stuff nobody posts…
I write everything down. Dates. Times. Who said what. What I promised somebody. What somebody promised me. Not because I am naturally organized. Because I am not. My memory lies to me the same way yours lies to you. The only difference is…

I run a publishing operation on tools that mostly cost nothing. Not because I am broke. Because cheap early is a strategy, and expensive early is a trap. Here is the rule I hold myself to. Nothing goes in the stack unless it is free, or…
The first thing you learn in flood water is that the water is talking to you the whole time. Most people never hear it. They see a flat brown surface and they think flat brown surface. That is it. No information. But water tells on…
Most people freeze up. They know somebody served. They can tell today is a heavy day. And they do not say anything at all, because they are scared of saying the wrong thing. So they say nothing. And nothing is the wrong thing. I was in…
I led 25 to 35 Marines. Read that again. Twenty five to thirty five people at a time. Their gear. Their readiness. Their medical and dental appointments. Their fitness standards. Their paperwork. I was a Corporal, an E-4, and I was young.…
Everybody quotes the end of the story. "You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good." Genesis 50:20. It gets stitched on pillows. It gets painted on boards and hung over kitchen sinks. It gets read at funerals. And it is true. I…
People want the hero version of that day. I do not have one. What I have is the logistics version, and the logistics version is more useful to you anyway. During Hurricane Florence we pulled fifty people out of the water in a single day.…

Every person who has ever looked hard at what we do at Wholesale Universe has thought the same thing, whether they said it out loud or not. If this works, why do you need me? Why not just open a hundred stores yourself and keep all of it?…
I counted my own archive this morning. Two hundred seventy five published pages on this site. One hundred thirty three of them are dead ends. That means you read all the way to the bottom, you liked it enough to finish, and then there is…
Nothing went wrong this week. That is the whole report. Ordinary days stacked one on top of the other. Coffee. Work. Supper. Sleep. Get up and do it again. And I handled it worse than I handle a bad week. I kept checking. Around four in…
By Ryan Nichols Before 1982, opening a bottle of over-the-counter medicine was a different act. The cap came off. The product was inside. Consumers generally did not expect a printed neck band, a foil barrier, a breakaway ring, or a label…

Three times on this ledger I have written about the book with no link to give you. I wrote about why I am writing it. I wrote about the rule of writing it in order. I wrote about the cut list. Every one of those pieces ended the same way:…
The best performing form on my site is not the contact page. It is one button. A single question at the bottom of a post. A few possible answers. You tap one and you are done. No name. No email. No "tell us about your project." I shipped…

I pulled my own numbers this morning. Every page view on RealRyanNichols.com since May 20, 2026. Thirty five thousand nine hundred and two of them. Then I sorted them by how far down the page people actually scrolled. My homepage came in…
I kept a list. Nobody handed me paper for it. I kept it in my head, which is worse, because paper you can lose. The list was simple. Who showed up. Who wrote. Who answered the phone when my family called. Who said my name out loud when it…
