Kenneth Travis Held On for 50 Minutes and 4 Seconds. East Texas Should Know His Name.

Guinness World Records says the longest any man has ever held a straight arm abdominal plank is 50 minutes and 4.58 seconds.

That did not happen in Los Angeles. It did not happen in London.

It happened in Longview, Texas.

The man who did it is named Kenneth Travis, and if you live in East Texas you ought to know that name.

Let me tell you what that position actually is, because most people hear the word plank and picture something easier than this.

Guinness defines the straight arm abdominal plank as the high plank. Palms flat on the ground. Arms locked straight. Only the toes touching besides the hands. Everything else, legs and torso, fully extended and held up off the floor. No forearms to rest on. No knees. No dropping the hips for a second to catch a break.

Fifty minutes of that.

Go set a timer for two minutes right now and get down on your hands and toes and hold it. I will wait.

Most grown men cannot make it to three.

Why the plank makes sense once you know who he is

Kenneth Travis served eight years in the United States Marine Corps.

I am a Marine too. So let me translate what fifty minutes in that position means.

Nobody who has not held a position under load understands what the last ten minutes of that costs. It stops being about abs somewhere around minute twelve. After that it is just a man deciding, over and over, several hundred times in a row, not to come down.

That is not a fitness accomplishment. That is a character trait with a stopwatch on it.

And Guinness asked him why he did it. The answer on their own record page is not about a trophy. Kenneth wanted to push his physical and mental limits, and he wanted to set an example for his sons. He said he hoped it would show other people they can do more than they think they can.

A dad in Longview decided the lesson he wanted to hand his boys was one he had to earn on the floor with his arms shaking.

Not a speech. Not a post. Fifty minutes of refusing to come down.

What he does when he is not on the floor

Here is the part that surprised me, and it is the reason this story is bigger than one record.

He owns Greenlight Mortgage. He owns The Coop on Judson. Both of them, out of one building on Judson Road.

The man is not a professional athlete. He owns two businesses, and he runs both of them out of the same building.

Greenlight Mortgage

Kenneth owns Greenlight Mortgage. He founded it in 2008 and he is President and CEO. NMLS 233918.

He came out of the Marine Corps, went to work as a loan originator for somebody else, and eventually got tired of how the business treated people. His own words for it, on his own site, are that the process at banks and credit unions felt rigid and archaic, that customer service was not prized, and that it was all about jamming deals through.

So he built his own shop and put three values on the wall. Service and Compassion. Operational Excellence. Trust and Integrity. The line underneath the first one is that they treat each borrower like a member of their family.

That is easy to put on a website. What is harder is that people write it back to you unprompted. Go read the testimonials on his site and you will see the same note over and over from people in Longview, Gilmer, and Jefferson, and the one that got me was the first time buyer who said Kenneth showed up at his closing just to shake his hand and thank him in person.

The company is a licensed mortgage broker in Texas, NMLS 2426021, and also licensed in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, North Dakota and South Carolina. They do conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, jumbo and refinancing, and the site carries a free mortgage calculator, a home valuation tool and a learning center that cost you nothing to use.

If you are a veteran in East Texas thinking about a VA loan, you can go get advice from a man who actually served eight years.

The Coop on Judson

He owns that one too. Same address. 4523 Judson Road.

Think about what that means for a second. He built a mortgage company from nothing, and then he built a place inside the same building where everybody else in town could come build theirs.

The Coop on Judson is a coworking space and event venue. Its own site says it was built for the people building Longview. Entrepreneurs, remote workers, small teams, and anybody who needs a room that does not have a drive-thru speaker in it.

A day pass is $25 with no membership required. Membership is $99 a month. A private lockable workstation with a real business address is $297 a month, which matters more than it sounds like if you have been running a company out of your house and handing out your home address.

On the other side of the building it is a 150 guest event venue. Weddings, receptions, showers, graduations, trainings, watch parties. Tables and chairs are included free with the rental. There is an outdoor kitchen and covered patio with fireplaces, and it is free for events over 100 guests.

Two things on that page tell you who runs it.

The first is that there is no security deposit. Their published reason is that they trust guests to take care of the space, and anything broken gets invoiced afterward. Almost nobody in the venue business writes that down.

The second is a line that will not surprise you by now.

The thing he says out loud

In October 2025 Kenneth went on the Broker to Broker podcast, hosted by the founding president of AIME, the Association of Independent Mortgage Experts. He is AIME's Lender Partnership Director.

AIME pulled one line out of that episode and called it the golden nugget. Here it is.

A man whose stated philosophy is that community pushes you to do harder things went out and held a position for fifty minutes to show his sons what holding on looks like. Then he built a building where other people in his town could come do their own hard things with somebody beside them.

Guinness issued the credential on September 10, 2026.

Three months of video review, adjudication and a file moving through an office in London before a man in Longview gets told officially that nobody on this planet has ever done that longer than he did.

That is a long time to sit on the best thing you ever did and not be able to prove it yet.

He can prove it now. It is on the Guinness site with his name on it and a verification number anybody can check.

East Texas, this one is ours

We do not get many of these.

There is exactly one person on earth who currently holds this title, and he lives here. He works here. He hired people here. His boys go to school here. He set a world record inside the Longview city limits and most people in town have no idea it happened.

Fix that.
