I Am Building Software That Keeps Its Own Receipts

A five dollar chargeback taught me something I am now building into everything.
Five dollars. Not a typo.
Somebody disputed a charge, the money went away, and the question came back to me in the form every business owner eventually sees. Prove it. Prove they bought it. Prove they got it. Prove they used it.
I sat there and realized the truth is not enough. The record is what wins.
That is not a new lesson for me. I just did not expect to relearn it over five dollars on a Tuesday.
What I found when I actually looked
When you fight a dispute, the payment processor already holds more than you think.
Name. Email. Billing address. Payment method. Risk score. Prior charges. The IP address the purchase came from. All of it captured automatically and dropped into the case for you.
That is the foundation, and it is free.
What it cannot capture is what happened after the sale. Whether they logged in. Whether they used the thing. Whether they clicked accept on the terms. Whether they opened the confirmation email.
For software, that is exactly the evidence that decides it.
The build decision
So here is the rule I set for SellerProof.
Proof is not a support process. Proof is a feature.
The software logs the access. Every login with an IP and a timestamp. Every meaningful action. Terms acceptance with a date on it. Confirmation emails stored, not just sent.
Not because I expect people to cheat me. Most people never will. But when it happens, the answer should be one query away instead of one week of digging through email.
That is the whole design principle. Build the record while the thing is happening, not after somebody comes at you.
Why this is a comeback post
Because this is what the last few years actually turned into.
I spent a long time learning what it costs to be right without the paper. To know exactly what happened and have no clean way to hand it to anybody. That is a bad place to stand, and I do not recommend it.
So now I build things that keep their own paper.
That is the through line. Wholesale Universe taught me the business. Everything after taught me the receipts. SellerProof is what happens when you put those two together and refuse to ship software that cannot defend itself.
Small thing. Also the least small thing I know.
The part you can use today
You do not need my software to do this. You need thirty minutes and one hard question.
If a customer disputed a charge with you tomorrow, could you produce the proof in under ten minutes?
Go look. Right now.
Can you show they bought it. Can you show they received it. Can you show they used it. Can you show they agreed to the terms.
If any one of those four is a maybe, that is the hole. That is where money leaks out and you never get an invoice for it.
Most small operations I talk to are running three of the four and hoping. Hope is not a system.
What I want you to do
Go run the numbers on your own business.
Pull your last six months of disputes and refunds. Add them up. Then ask honestly how many of those you could have fought and won if the record had been sitting there ready.
That number is usually bigger than people expect. And it is the cheapest money you will ever recover, because you already earned it once.
Build the record while it is happening. Every time. It costs almost nothing up front, and it is the only thing that will talk for you later.
