The Record Grew While I Was in the Delivery Room

Seventeen days ago I told you about RepWatchr, the accountability database I built because I know what it is like to have no record.

Back then it held 16,758 public profiles and 58,575 source links.

I checked it this morning, my first morning as a father of a newborn, half awake with coffee going cold.

The front page today reads 16,783 public profiles and 58,667 source URLs.

Twenty five new profiles. Ninety two new source links. In seventeen days that included the birth of my son.

I know those are not viral numbers. That is the point of this piece.

Ninety two receipts is what showing up daily looks like from the outside. No launch, no announcement, no spike. Just a record that is a little harder to argue with every single morning, including the mornings the builder is in a delivery room and never thinks about it once.

That is what a record is supposed to do. Outlast the attention of the person keeping it.

Here is the part I actually want you to see, because the counters are not the product. The rules are.

At the bottom of every page on that site there is one sentence that took me longer to get right than some entire features: private details and unsourced allegations do not belong on public pages. A database about public officials could fill itself with rumors in a week if you let it. The whole value is in what it refuses to hold.

So every claim needs a source a voter can open. Facts, public claims, inferences and missing proof stay separated, and the methodology is published so anybody can check the standard against the work.

And it is not just me feeding it anymore. The site runs a citizen source desk where anybody can submit a roster, a vote, an agenda, a filing, a clip or a correction. It lands on the right official's record, labeled as a reviewed submission, receipts required. Anybody who wants something on the record can put it there, receipts attached.

I do not know how many of this month's links arrived through that desk and I am not going to guess at a number. What I know is the door is open, the standard is published, and submissions land on the right record labeled as reviewed citizen material.

That is the quiet version of the thing I keep preaching. You do not need to own a platform to help build a record. You need one document and somewhere permanent to put it.

The free lane stays free. That is permanent.

I built RepWatchr because somebody once built a story about me and I had nothing standing that could answer it.

My son was born this week. One day he is going to ask what I did about that.

I am going to show him a record that grew every day, by receipts, under published rules, whether anybody was watching or not. Ninety two links at a time.

If you have a local race, a school board, or an official you think nobody is watching, put one source on the record. One agenda. One vote. One filing.

That is how all 58,667 of them got there.
