My Book Finally Has a Price on Every Page
A thing with no price is a thing you are still allowed to quit. On the Fighting Shadows banner, the priced shelf, and what I could not verify.

There is a thin bar across the top of my store page right now.
It says Fighting Shadows, twenty nine ninety nine, get it.
That is it. Four words and a number, sitting above everything else on the page.
I want to tell you why a strip of text that small is a line on the ledger.
For a long time the book had no price
It had a title before it had a price. It had chapters before it had a price. For a stretch there it had readers, people I trust who got pages early, and it still had no price.
A thing with no price is a thing you are still allowed to quit.
You can talk about it at dinner. You can put it in a bio. Nobody can hold you to it, because you never asked anybody for anything.
The day you put a number on it, that changes. Somebody can pay it. And the second somebody pays it, you owe a book.
Now the honest part
I am not going to publish a price comparison I cannot back.
This site ran a piece on September 7 that described the pre-order entry tier at a different figure than the one on the banner today. The pre-order page itself did not load for me when I went to pull it for this article.
So here is where that leaves it. I can confirm what the banner says, because I read it. I cannot confirm what the page behind it says today, because I did not get it to load. And I am not going to reconcile two numbers from a strip of text at the top of a page and call that reporting.
If you pre-ordered at an earlier number, you are covered at the number you paid. That is not a policy I am announcing today. That is just how it works when a man sells you something.
And if the two figures do not line up when somebody checks, I would rather have said so here first than have it found.
That has been the rule on this site since day one. You do not publish around a problem. You publish the problem.
The shelf
Here is what got me though.
The book is not alone on that page anymore.
Scroll down the store and there is a whole shelf. A thirty minute strategy call. A written site audit. A site build. A full platform bundle with domain guidance and a thirty day check in after launch.
Four services and a book. All of them with a number on them. All of them on a page I own, on a domain I own, that nobody can suspend.
Five things. Twenty nine dollars to two thousand.
Four years ago I did not have a shelf. I did not have a page. I did not have a domain. I had a case number and a cell.
I am not putting that on there for sympathy. I am putting it on there because the distance between those two facts is the only thing on this site I am actually proud of.
What a price does to a man
I have written about the comeback ledger before and the rule on it has not changed. Only shipped work gets a line. Not plans. Not almost. Shipped.
A price is how something gets to shipped.
It is a commitment with a number attached, published where anybody can see it and hold you to it. It is the opposite of talking about what you are going to do.
The store page also says, right there in the middle of it, that I am not a lawyer and this is not a law firm. No legal advice. No outcome promises. No fake certainty.
Same instinct. Put the limits on the same page as the offer, in the same size type, before anybody hands you a dollar.
Where it stands
The book is not finished. I have never said it was.
But it has a number on it, on a page I own, above the fold, on every visit.
Which means every single day I walk past my own storefront and see a promise I made with a price attached, and I have to decide again whether I am the kind of man who keeps it.
That is a better alarm clock than anything I have ever bought.
