The Quiet Stopped Feeling Like Something Was Wrong
Confinement teaches you that quiet means something bad is coming. Here is what it took for my body to finally believe the evidence instead of the memory.

For a long stretch, quiet meant something bad was about to happen.
That is what confinement teaches you. Quiet is the gap before the door opens. Quiet is somebody deciding something about you in a room you are not in. You learn to read silence the way other people read weather.
So when I got home and the house went quiet, my body did not call it peace. It called it a warning.
I want to be honest about how long that lasted. Longer than I expected. Longer than I told people.
Here is what changed. Not a moment. Not a verse that landed like lightning. Repetition.
I got up. Nothing happened. I made coffee. Nothing happened. I worked. Nothing happened.
Do that enough mornings in a row and your nervous system starts believing the evidence instead of the memory.
That is the part nobody tells you about rebuilding. A lot of it is just accumulating uneventful days until the uneventful ones outnumber the other kind.
I used to think healing would feel like relief. It mostly feels like boredom you finally stop being suspicious of.
Genesis 50:20 says what was meant for evil, God meant for good. I have quoted it plenty. But I used to read it as a promise about the ending. Lately I read it as a description of the middle. The good is not waiting at the finish line. It is already running underneath the ordinary Friday you are standing in.
I still catch myself listening for something. Old wiring does not get replaced. It gets outvoted.
But most days now the quiet is just quiet. The house is a house. The morning is a morning. Nobody is coming.
That is not a small thing. For a while, that was the whole thing.
If you are somewhere in that stretch where calm feels like a setup, I am not going to tell you to relax. I am going to tell you to keep stacking ordinary days.
Your body is counting even when your head is not.
