Rebuild

One Month In

Thomas David is a month old. That is the only detail about him going on this site. But here is what one month rearranged in me, including the part I did not expect.

Thomas David was born on August 4, 2026.

That is the only detail about him that belongs on this website, and it is going to stay that way. He did not sign up for a public record. I did.

But I am allowed to write about what a month has done to me, and it has done plenty.

The first thing a newborn does to a man who is rebuilding a life is take away his excuses about time.

I used to believe I did not have time. What I actually had was a pile of unowned hours. Hours I gave to scrolling. To arguing with strangers. To rereading things written about me by people who will never meet me.

A baby does not negotiate. He takes the hours that were never doing anything for me anyway, and he leaves the hours that were.

I get more done now than I did in July. That sounds like a lie. It is not. The slack just got squeezed out.

The second thing is harder to say.

For years my whole identity ran on defense. What happened to me. What was said about me. What I had to answer. Defense is a full time job and it pays nothing. You can build an entire personality out of a fight and never notice you did it.

You cannot hold a one month old and stay in that posture. The two do not fit in the same room.

I am not going to pretend the fight ended. It did not. But it stopped being the center. It became one item on a list that now has a lot of other items on it, and most of those other items are better.

The third thing is the one I did not expect.

I stopped needing an audience for it.

The best hours of the last month have no photograph, no post, no comment section. Nobody clapped. Nobody argued. They happened, and then they were over, and they were still good.

That is new for me. I spent a long time believing a thing did not fully count until it was on the record somewhere. Turns out the record is for the things that need defending.

The rest of it is just your life. It is allowed to be private.

So here is the comeback ledger entry for this month, and it is short.

One month older. Considerably less interested in being right. Still building. Still here.

That will do.
