The Best Parts of My Family Life Stay Off This Site
I put my work and my receipts out in the open every day. My home stays home. Why that line is one of the most important entries on my comeback ledger.

I write on this site every day. I put my receipts out in the open. I tell you what I am building, what it costs, and where I got it wrong.
And the best parts of my family life are never going to be on here.
That is not a contradiction. It is a ledger entry. On the comeback ledger it might be the most important one I have made this year.
For years, my life was public whether I liked it or not
For a long stretch, strangers read about me in headlines and in a federal case file. People who never met me formed opinions about who I was. I did not get a vote on what got printed.
I am not complaining about that now. It is part of how I got here. But it taught me what it feels like when your life is content for people who do not love you.
So when I started rebuilding, I made a decision. My work goes public. My home stays home.
Here is the line, written down
I do not like rules that live only in my head, because those are the ones that drift. So here it is.
That is it. A name and a date. That is what the internet gets.
No pictures of the nursery. No updates on how he is sleeping. No first anything posted for clicks. When he is old enough to decide what he wants the world to know about him, that will be his call, not mine, and certainly not an algorithm's.
Why this counts as part of the comeback
A comeback story usually gets measured in things you can show. Revenue. A book. A building. A follower count.
Some of the rebuild is the opposite. It is the stuff you protect by not showing it.
I spent a long time with almost nothing that was just mine. No privacy, no quiet, no part of my life that was not being watched or written about by somebody. Now I have a home that is not a story. A family life that does not need an audience to be real.
That is not a small thing. That is the thing.
What you get instead
You still get the work. Every day. The systems I build, the lessons I learned the hard way, the faith that got me through, the businesses I am putting back together.
You get the man. You do not get the boy.
If you have a family and you are building something in public, I would gently push you on this. Decide where your line is before the internet decides it for you. Write it down. Say it out loud once, the way I just did, so you are on the record holding yourself to it.
The people who matter will respect the line. The ones who do not were never going to be good for your family anyway.
