I am writing this from custody. I was booked into the Harrison County jail today — not for putting my hands on anyone, not for theft, not for hurting a single soul. I was booked in because I posted on Facebook and defended myself in public.
Let that sit for a second. In America, in 2026, a man can lose his freedom for speaking.
What happened today
I went before the court for my arraignment. I pleaded not guilty. I asked for a court-appointed attorney, because I cannot afford one — the only lawyer who would take my case wanted $25,000 I do not have.
I was hoping to meet with and retain my own attorney this week. Now that I am locked up, that is going to be a lot harder to do. I was given a court-appointed attorney after I was booked in, and I am still working to retain my own counsel in the days ahead.
I did not walk out of that courtroom free. I walked into a cell. My bond was revoked and doubled to a $10,000 cash bond — and I was told the reason was that my posting on social media violated a condition of my release.
Speaking is not a crime
I believe what was done to me today is wrong, and I believe it is unconstitutional. The First Amendment does not have an exception for people the local government finds inconvenient. Telling your side of the story in public is not a crime. It is the most American thing a person can do.
What I was accused of harassment for involved no criminal threats. No stalking behavior. No extortion. I made specific, factual accusations — and I backed them up. That is not criminal harassment. Public criticism, even harsh criticism, is treated very differently under the law than repeated direct communications, threats, stalking, or intimidation. From all the research that has been done on my behalf, what I did looks like a prolonged public campaign of criticism against a specific individual — not the kind of direct, threatening communication that criminal harassment cases are actually about. And truth is generally a defense. When you have the receipts — when the things you said are accurate and can be proven — that is a very different thing from someone simply throwing out accusations with no evidence. I have the receipts.
I maintain my innocence on the charges against me, and I intend to fight them the right way — in a courtroom, with counsel, on the record, with the evidence. But you cannot fight from a cell, and that appears to be exactly the point. This is meant to take my summer away from me.
And it is worse than that. It feels like they are trying to keep me from being there for the birth of my son. Amanda is due in August — and the doctors think he may come sooner. If I am held in here, I may miss the birth of my own child over Facebook posts. There is no getting that day back.
The paperwork problem
My bondsman was there with Amanda today and told us she was never given the paperwork spelling out my bond conditions. We are asking the court to reinstate my bond and to let me fight this case the way every American is supposed to — out of custody, with my rights intact.
What I need
If you believe in due process and free speech, here is how you can stand with me right now:
- Support. I cannot earn a dime sitting in this cell, and my family is carrying everything alone. Anything that helps cover bond and keep us afloat makes a real difference and keeps this fight alive.
- Share this. Getting the truth in front of people who care is the thing they fear most.
I am not asking anyone to harass a soul or take anything into their own hands. I am asking for help getting home — home to my family, and home before my son is born — and for the basic fairness this country promises every one of us.
So stand up with me. Let us not let them silence us. We are supposed to have freedom of speech in this country — so why don't we come together and stand for our rights?
I am not going quiet. Not about this.
