Brady Knowlton is a Utah husband and father who fought his case and won on the biggest count. FACT: Knowlton, 40 at the time of arrest, lived near St. George, Utah, in Dammeron Valley. He worked in financing for the oil and energy industry and has been listed as an executive vice president at a financial consulting firm since 2003. (Fox 13 Salt Lake City; St. George News) FACT: He was indicted on seven counts, including obstruction of an official proceeding. He pleaded not guilty to all of them and took his case to a bench trial. (DOJ; KSL) FACT: The judge convicted him of entering a restricted building and of the obstruction count. Then the United States Supreme Court ruled in Fischer v. United States that the obstruction statute had been applied too broadly to January 6 defendants. Knowlton's obstruction conviction did not survive that ruling. (Fox 13 Salt Lake City) He was right about the law before the Supreme Court agreed with him. FACT: He was sentenced to three years of probation with a $75,000 fine and $25,000 in restitution. No prison. (Fox 13 Salt Lake City) FACT: On January 20, 2025, the presidential proclamation on January 6 offenses issued a full pardon covering his conviction. Four years of fighting. Personal recognizance the entire time — the court never considered him a danger to anyone.
