They had years to write their version of me.

I am taking mine back. One page at a time.

I am writing a book. It is called Fighting Shadows. And I want to tell you what it is, and what it is not, before anybody else tells you for me.

What it is

It is the record.

Not a rant. Not revenge. The record.

It is what it actually felt like to be a man inside a system that had already decided the ending. It is the days that did not make the news. The nights nobody filmed. The small things that break a person down when they think no one is keeping count.

I was keeping count.

I am writing it because a story told out loud, in a man's own words, is harder to bury than a headline somebody buried on purpose. They are good at noise. I am going to be good at the record.

Why now

Because the quiet gave me the room to.

For a long time I could not have written this. I was too close to it. Too loud on the inside. When you are still in the fire you cannot describe the fire. You are just trying not to burn.

Now there is a little distance. Enough to sit down and put it in order. Enough to turn the worst chapters of my life into something with a spine, a beginning, and a purpose.

That is what a comeback actually looks like. It is not a victory lap. It is a man at a desk, late at night, turning pain into pages because he refuses to let it be wasted.

What it is not

It is not a court filing. I am careful about that.

I am not going to put things in a book that belong in a motion, and I am not going to dress up a rumor as a fact to sell a chapter. Where something is my belief, I will say it is my belief. Where something is the record, I will show the record.

And it is not the end of my story. It is one honest accounting of the hardest stretch of it, written by the man who actually lived it and walked out the other side still standing.

Why I am telling you before it is finished

Because I want you to watch it get built.

Too many people only show you the trophy. The finished thing. The clean version. I would rather let you see the work. The late nights. The hard pages. The parts where I have to stop and breathe before I can write the next line.
