People assume the book is my revenge.

It is not.

Fighting Shadows is not a knife. It is a record.

There is a difference, and the difference is the whole reason I am writing it.

Revenge forgets. A record remembers.

Revenge is loud and then it is over. You get your shot, you feel something for a minute, and the moment passes. Nothing changes. The next person it happens to starts from scratch with no proof anything ever happened before.

A record is different. A record outlives the anger. A record is still sitting there long after everybody stopped yelling. A record is what makes it hard for the same thing to happen quietly to the next person.

That is what I am building. Not a payback. A paper trail with a heartbeat.

Why I am the one writing it

I am not writing this because I think my story is special.

I am writing it because I can.

I came out of the worst years of my life with something most people in those rooms did not have. A voice. A platform. The ability to put it into words and put it where people can find it.

There were men next to me with no way to tell anyone what happened to them. No website. No followers. No book deal. No skill to build one. They lived it and then they had to carry it alone with nobody believing them.

I refuse to be one more person who went through it and then went silent.

If I have the ability to write it down, then I have the responsibility to write it down. Not just for me. For the ones who cannot.

What the book is and what it is not

Let me be clear about what this is.

It is my account. My experience. What I saw, what I lived, what it did to me and what I did with it after.

It is not a courtroom verdict. It is not me pretending to know things I do not know. Where I am telling you what I believe, I will say I believe it. Where I am telling you what happened to me, I lived it, and I will tell it plain.

I am not going to make anything bigger than it was. The truth is heavy enough. It does not need me to inflate it. It needs me to write it down accurately and let it stand.

The discipline of it

Here is the part nobody warns you about.

Writing a book about the hardest thing that ever happened to you means going back into it on purpose. Sitting in it. Some days that is brutal.

But I have learned something about pain from all of this. If you run from it, it runs you. If you turn around and put it into words, it starts to lose its grip.

The writing is not just for the reader. It is part of how I heal. Every chapter I finish is one more thing that no longer lives only in my head where it can eat me alive. It is out. It is on the page. It cannot ambush me the same way anymore.

That is what they never understood about people like me. They thought silence would protect them.

They forgot that a man can write.

Why it matters to you

Maybe you have your own version of this. Something that happened to you that nobody wrote down. Something you carried alone because you did not think anyone would believe you or you did not have the words.

Write it down anyway.

You do not need a book deal. You do not need a platform the size of mine. You need to get it out of your head and onto something permanent so it cannot be erased and it cannot keep ambushing you in the dark.

That is what I am doing with Fighting Shadows.

Not getting even.

Making sure it can never happen quietly again.

If you want to follow the book as it comes together, or you have your own record you are trying to build and do not know where to start, come find me at RealRyanNichols.com.

Do not threaten anyone. Do not harass anyone. Do not contact anyone in my name.

Just build the record. That is how this actually gets won.
