Yvonne St Cyr is a woman from Boise, Idaho, and the first pardoned January 6 defendant a federal judge ordered the government to actually pay back. Yvonne was convicted in September 2023 on six counts, including civil disorder and entering restricted Capitol grounds, and sentenced to 30 months. She appealed. Then came the January 20, 2025 pardon. Because her appeal was still pending when President Trump pardoned her, U.S. District Judge John D. Bates ruled her conviction was vacated outright, not just forgiven, but wiped clean, restoring the presumption of innocence. In August 2026 he ordered the government to refund the $2,270 in fines and restitution she had already paid. Judge Bates wrote that "the government cannot punish a person, whether by depriving her of liberty or money, if she has been 'adjudged guilty of no crime.'" FACT, per court ruling and reporting.
