William Rogan Reid is a Davie, Florida man who refused to take a deal. He did not plead out. He made the government prove it. Then he appealed. THE FIGHT [FACT] Reid was arrested April 1, 2021, had his initial appearance April 2, 2021, and was indicted April 23, 2021. [FACT] He went to trial. On August 23, 2022 the court found him guilty of obstruction of an official proceeding and of corruptly altering, destroying, mutilating or concealing a record, document or other object, both felonies, along with five related misdemeanors. He agreed to a stipulated set of facts. [FACT] The misdemeanors were entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, destruction of government property, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building. [FACT] He was sentenced December 7, 2022 to 37 months of incarceration, 36 months of supervised release, and $2,443 in restitution. [FACT] He filed a notice of appeal. He kept fighting from inside. THE RECEIPT [FACT] On June 28, 2024 the Supreme Court decided Fischer v. United States and narrowed 18 U.S.C. 1512(c)(2), the obstruction of an official proceeding statute used against hundreds of January 6 defendants. [DOCUMENTED INFERENCE] William Rogan Reid was convicted of that offense in August 2022 and sentenced in December 2022, well before the Supreme Court narrowed the statute. [FACT] On January 20, 2025 the President issued a proclamation granting full, complete and unconditional pardons to individuals convicted of offenses related to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. Reid's convictions fall within that grant. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE Reid was never charged with assaulting a police officer. He was never charged with a weapon. The record is trespass, obstruction, and a phone. WHAT IS STILL MISSING His trade, his service record if he has one, and his family are not in the public reporting reviewed for this profile. South Florida knows him better than the docket does. This archive wants the rest.
