William Lewis is a Burbank, Illinois man in his late fifties who did federal prison time for January 6, 2021, before a presidential clemency reached his case. We're not going to dress this up. Prosecutors said Lewis sprayed wasp killer at officers on the Capitol's West Plaza, then later took a police baton and used it to break windows at the Lower West Terrace. He pleaded guilty to a felony count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers. A judge sentenced him to 37 months in federal prison plus two years of supervised release, and ordered him to pay restitution. That is the record. We print it straight. Here is what stands out. Lewis was not arrested in the days after January 6. He was arrested in November 2023, nearly three years later, as investigators kept working these cases long after the news cameras left. Whatever else is true about him, he was still being identified and charged years on, same as many others still being worked through the system today. The legal fight and where it stands: Lewis was sentenced in January 2025, days before President Trump's January 20, 2025 clemency order for January 6 defendants. That clemency reached his case. A felony conviction and a federal prison sentence, followed almost immediately by presidential clemency. What this does not prove: it does not erase what a guilty plea admitted. We are not calling this a wrongful prosecution. The plea and the sentence are the record, and the clemency is a separate, later act of the executive branch, not a finding that the conviction was wrong. What this does prove: due process happened here, start to finish, and then clemency followed. Both parts are true at once, and the record holds both. We have found no reporting yet on William Lewis's family, occupation, or life outside this case. That story, if he or his family want it told, belongs to them to write here.
