William Frederick Beals, II
Pardoned January 6 defendant
Documented editorial-use imageWilliam Frederick Beals, II is a north Georgia working man out of Ringgold, in Catoosa County. He cleans industrial sites for a living. He is raising his daughter on his own. Single father. Hard job. Small town. HIS STORY [FACT] The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Beals is an industrial cleaner, that he was 53 at sentencing, and that he is the sole custodian of his teenage daughter. That last one matters. When the government asks a court to jail a man like that, it is asking to take a child's only parent. THE LEGAL FIGHT [FACT] Beals was arrested in August 2023, more than two and a half years after January 6. The Justice Department announced the arrest on both felony and misdemeanor charges, including allegations that he illegally entered the Capitol and lied to investigators. [FACT] The felony exposure did not survive. In May 2024 he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors: entering a restricted building, and disorderly conduct in a restricted building. [FACT] The AJC reported he was inside the building twice for less than 15 minutes combined. [FACT] His federal public defender asked the court for no jail time and three years probation, citing the misdemeanor conduct and his compliance with his bond conditions. [FACT] In September 2024 the court gave him 90 days home detention and three years probation. No prison. [FACT] On January 20, 2025 the President issued a proclamation granting full, complete and unconditional pardons to individuals convicted of offenses related to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. William Frederick Beals II's misdemeanor convictions fall within that grant. He served his home detention at home, with his daughter, and then the record was wiped by pardon. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE Beals was never convicted of a felony in this case. He was never charged with assaulting an officer. He was never charged with a weapon. Two misdemeanors is what the record shows.
