Victor Sean Dennison is a California man whose January 6 case took an unusual turn: he skipped his own trial and spent a year as a fugitive before the FBI caught up with him in Florida. Here's what the record shows. Prosecutors allege Dennison entered the Capitol on January 6, 2021, wearing a hat reading "ALL ABOARD THE TRUMP TRAIN," and that the next day he recorded himself describing the experience: "We're like, okay, we're in and we're making headway ... and that's a symbol that we're winning." THEIR ACCOUNT, Dennison's own alleged words on video, per the DOJ complaint. He was charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly conduct, and parading. He failed to appear for trial in the summer of 2023, and a federal judge issued a bench warrant. Dennison has described himself as a "sovereign citizen," a legal theory his own defense attorney described to reporters as someone who considers themselves "a citizen of their own body" outside U.S. legal jurisdiction. THEIR ACCOUNT. The FBI arrested Dennison in Clearwater, Florida, on April 22, 2024, roughly a year after the warrant was issued. A failure-to-appear count was added to his case. He was found guilty on all five counts at a bench trial on August 28, 2024, and sentenced to 30 days on the first four counts and 150 days on the failure-to-appear count, plus 12 months of supervised release. FACT, per the court docket. On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted Dennison a full pardon covering the January 6 prosecutions, including the failure-to-appear count. FACT.
