Tanya Bishop is a Snow Hill woman out of Greene County, North Carolina, and for almost three years after January 6, 2021, she was just a neighbor in a small eastern North Carolina town. Then federal agents came to Snow Hill. WHO SHE IS FACT: Tanya Bishop was 48 years old when she was charged. Her listed home is Snow Hill, North Carolina. (NPR Jan. 6 Archive) FACT: She was not charged alone. Curtis Davis, 45, also of Snow Hill, was arrested the same day in the same town. Local newsrooms covered the two of them together as a Snow Hill couple. (WITN, WRAL, Public Radio East) FACT: She is described in the court record as wearing a blue hood with white stars and a Harley-Davidson jacket. Three years later, that jacket is how the government found her. THE CHARGES, AS CHARGES CHARGE ONLY: The government charged Tanya Bishop with assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers. Prosecutors alleged she pushed against officers clearing the Rotunda and reached for a baton, and that she said to them, "You can't turn on Americans." An allegation is an allegation. Nothing on this page states guilt beyond what the court record says. HER LEGAL FIGHT FACT: Bishop entered a guilty plea. Sentencing was reset for February 5, 2025. She never reached that date. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. On January 22, 2025, the court granted the government's motion to dismiss her case with prejudice. With prejudice means it is over and cannot be refiled. CASE RECORD Case No. 1:24-cr-00299, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Arrested December 8, 2023, in Snow Hill, North Carolina. Docket: guilty plea entered; sentencing reset to February 5, 2025; dismissed with prejudice January 22, 2025. Charging and plea filings: CourtListener RECAP, D.D.C. docket 269919.
