Sean David Watson is a United States Army veteran from Alpine, Texas, out in Brewster County where the Big Bend country starts. He served this country first. Everything else came after. FACT: At the time of his sentencing Sean David Watson was 51 years old and was identified in court coverage as an Army veteran. Alpine is a small West Texas town. Everybody knows everybody. When the FBI came to his house, the whole county knew by supper. Here is what the record shows. FACT: Watson was arrested April 28, 2021 and released on a $10,000 bond. FACT: His initial appearance was held May 5, 2021. FACT: An information was filed June 22, 2021 and he pleaded not guilty at arraignment on June 24, 2021. FACT: On April 21, 2022 he pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building, and three other counts were dropped. FACT: On September 6, 2022 he was sentenced to 24 months of probation including seven days of incarceration, 60 hours of community service, and $500 restitution. Seven days. That is the entire custodial sentence in this case. Watson talked big at first. FACT: An arrest affidavit quoted a text message calling January 6 the proudest day of his life. Then he stood in front of a federal judge and told the truth about himself. THEIR ACCOUNT: "What I did was absolutely ridiculous and completely stupid." THEIR ACCOUNT: "I'm incredibly embarrassed by what I did." THEIR ACCOUNT: "I am deeply sorry for my actions." That is an Army veteran taking it on the chin in public. No lawyer talk. No spin. He said it himself. DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: A seven day jail condition on a probation sentence is what the court gave a man the government charged with four counts. The sentence is the court's own measurement of the conduct. FACT: On January 20, 2025, the presidential proclamation granted pardons for offenses relating to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.
