Salvatore Vassallo is a Toms River, New Jersey man who was about sixty years old when the federal government sent him to prison. He did the time. Every day of it was real. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: the Philadelphia Inquirer described Salvatore Vassallo in its headline as a New Jersey construction worker. Headlines carry errors. This archive labels that occupation unverified until someone who knows him confirms it. FACT: a tipster brought Vassallo to the FBI's attention in June 2021. A former neighbor picked him out of photographs from the Capitol. He was arrested in Toms River, New Jersey in September 2022, and released on his own recognizance two weeks later. FACT, per the charging documents: prosecutors said that around 4:30 p.m. on January 6, 2021, on the Upper West Terrace, Vassallo faced a line of officers, lit a cigar, then charged forward and pushed and grabbed Metropolitan Police Officer Mark Eveland. Body worn camera footage and a YouTube video documented it. He was described wearing a camouflage ball cap, a bandana, a gray backpack and gray pants. This archive does not sand that down. An officer was pushed. That is what the record says and that is what he pleaded to. THE LEGAL FIGHT FACT: Salvatore Vassallo pleaded guilty on May 11, 2023 to one felony count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers. The other six counts were dismissed. FACT: on October 4, 2023 he was sentenced to 18 months of incarceration, 36 months of supervised release, $2,000 in restitution, a $100 special assessment, a $3,000 fine, and 60 hours of community service. FACT: on January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Salvatore Vassallo received a full pardon. He is one of the ones who actually sat in a federal cell. Eighteen months is not a technicality. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: no reporting found on his family, his service, or his work history in Ocean County, New Jersey. If you know him, fill it in.
