Ryan Wilson is a 40 year old man from Athena, Oregon, a farm town of under 1,200 people in Umatilla County, out in the wheat country of eastern Oregon. He took his case to trial. He lost. And then the government dismissed it with prejudice before he was ever sentenced. Ryan Wilson never served a sentence in this case. THE LEGAL FIGHT. FACT: Ryan Wilson was arrested in September 2023. FACT: he was charged in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia with Civil Disorder, Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers, Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers Using a Dangerous Weapon, Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds With a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds With a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds With a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building, and an Act of Physical Violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings. FACT: Ryan Wilson pleaded NOT GUILTY to all charges. He did not take a deal. FACT: he was found guilty on all charges in a bench trial on October 10, 2024. FACT: sentencing was reset for January 22, 2025. FACT: on January 21, 2025, one day before that sentencing date, the court granted the government's motion to DISMISS THE CASE WITH PREJUDICE. It cannot be refiled. DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: court filings state Wilson spoke voluntarily with the FBI in an April 2022 interview and acknowledged being at the Capitol. He answered the knock. He did not run. FACT: reporting on the case notes that his father, Duke Wilson, was separately prosecuted over January 6 and sentenced to 51 months. A father and a son, both swept into the same federal dragnet. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE: the government's allegation about a pipe is an allegation from charging papers, and no sentence was ever entered against Ryan Wilson of Athena, Oregon on any of it.
