Richard Markey is a Wolcott, Connecticut man who took his case head on and never asked anyone else to carry it. Small town Connecticut. Wolcott sits in the hills above Waterbury, the kind of place where everybody knows whose truck is in whose driveway. That is where Richard Markey is from. FACT: Markey was arrested by the FBI on July 17, 2023, on a complaint filed July 13, 2023 (U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia). FACT: He is a resident of Wolcott, Connecticut (CT News Junkie, August 21, 2024; Inside Investigator). FACT: He pleaded guilty in August 2024 to assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers with a deadly or dangerous weapon (U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia; CT News Junkie). FACT: He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta to 30 months, 36 months of supervised release, and $2,000 in restitution (Connecticut Post; CT News Junkie). FACT: On January 20, 2025, a presidential proclamation granted clemency in the January 6 cases. Richard Markey pleaded. He did not go to trial and he did not drag it out. Whatever anyone thinks of the day, the man answered for it in his own name.
