Harris was 43 at the time of his sentencing and lived in Happy Valley, a suburb southeast of Portland in Clackamas County. He was one of a small handful of Oregon and southwest Washington residents charged in connection with January 6. He was arrested March 5, 2021, in Hollywood, Florida, and held in the Broward County jail before being transported to Washington, D.C. THE LEGAL FIGHT (FACT, court record): Richard Lee Harris was arrested March 5, 2021, and indicted the same day. His initial appearance was held April 21, 2021. He did not take a plea deal. He put the government to its proof at a bench trial before U.S. District Judge Carl J. Nichols, who found him guilty on June 14, 2023, of five felony and six misdemeanor counts. On October 27, 2023, Judge Nichols sentenced him to 41 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release. CLEMENCY (FACT): On January 20, 2025, President Trump issued a full, complete and unconditional pardon covering individuals convicted of offenses related to the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
