Richard T. Crosby Jr. is a young man from Harwinton, Connecticut who did not hide. He put his own first name and his own phone number out on a YouTube video after January 6. The FBI called the number. It led to his parents. Agents drove to his house and he walked them through it himself. That is not how a man who thinks he committed a crime behaves. WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS FACT: Court documents say Richard Crosby Jr. identified himself as Rick C. in a YouTube video after the riot and gave out his phone number. FBI agents traced the number and reached his parents in Connecticut. FACT: His parents told agents that Richard Crosby Jr. believed the 2020 election had been stolen and that he had gone to Washington on January 6 for the rally. FACT: When agents questioned him at his home he corroborated what his parents said. He told them he went because he wanted his voice heard. He showed them where he entered the building and said it was chaos inside. FACT: He ended up in the Senate chamber, on the dais, with two other men including Jacob Chansley. Chansley offered a prayer. At the end of it Richard Crosby Jr. said Amen. He told agents he joined Stop the Steal chants on his way out and walked back to his hotel. That is the whole government case. A prayer, an Amen, and a man who told the truth when they knocked. THE LEGAL FIGHT FACT: He was arrested June 3, 2021. He was indicted July 9, 2021 and arraigned July 20, 2021, where he pleaded not guilty to all counts. He was released on personal recognizance and stayed on personal recognizance. FACT: He fought it for more than three years. FACT: On October 28, 2024, Richard Crosby Jr. changed his plea and pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor counts. Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds. Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds. Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building. Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. FACT: The felony Obstruction of an Official Proceeding count did not survive to judgment. FACT: Sentencing was set for February 6, 2025. He never got there. On January 21, 2025, the court granted the government motion to dismiss the case with prejudice, following the January 20, 2025 clemency proclamation. FACT: Richard T. Crosby Jr. was never sentenced. He served no prison time on this case. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE Not one count of assault. Not one count of property damage. No weapon. Four misdemeanors, and a dismissal with prejudice before a judge ever imposed a day.
