Richard Andrews is a 72 year old Jersey Shore man from Brick Township who spent his working life in a family owned auto body shop, and he was charged in the last weeks before the 2024 election over a day in Washington almost four years earlier. Seventy two years old. A body shop in Brick. A son who stood with him. WHO HE IS FACT: Richard Andrews is 72 and lives in Brick Township, Ocean County, New Jersey. (NPR Jan. 6 Archive; Seattle Times; New Jersey 101.5) FACT: The Andrewses operate a family owned auto body shop in Brick. That is the business this family built. (Seattle Times, reporting from the FBI agent's court filing) FACT: Richard Andrews went to Washington on January 6, 2021, with his son, Keith Andrews, 49, of Howell Township. Keith confirmed to the FBI that he and his father were both there. (FBI affidavit, D.D.C. docket 274213) FACT: Keith's lawyer told reporters his client "looks forward to addressing these charges and standing with his father." A son said that out loud, on the record, about Richard Andrews. (Seattle Times) THE CHARGES, AS CHARGES CHARGE ONLY: Richard Andrews was charged with a felony count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, a felony count of obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, and several misdemeanors. Prosecutors alleged he threw a chair through closed shutters and that the chair struck an officer, and that he pushed at another officer. Those are allegations in a charging document. He was never tried. He was never convicted. Under the law he is presumed innocent of every one of them. HIS LEGAL FIGHT FACT: Richard Andrews was arrested on October 29, 2024, one week before the presidential election, at 72 years old. FACT: He was never convicted of anything. On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions, and on January 22, 2025, the court granted the government's motion to dismiss the case against Richard Andrews with prejudice.
