Paul Thomas Brinson
Pardoned January 6 defendant
Documented editorial-use imagePaul Thomas Brinson is a 65-year-old man from Flower Mound, Texas who told the truth when it counted, even after he'd first tried not to. FACT: FBI agents interviewed Brinson on October 19, 2021, and court records state he initially denied entering the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Once reminded that lying to federal agents is itself a crime, he changed course. FACT: he admitted to entering the Capitol building around 2:00 p.m. and leaving about 45 minutes later. Open-source photos allegedly show him near the Speaker's Lobby in a red and blue hoodie. Paul Brinson wasn't arrested until October 10, 2023, nearly three years after the fact, in Flower Mound. FACT: he pleaded guilty to two counts, disorderly conduct and parading in the Capitol. Other charges were dismissed. The court sentenced him to 30 days incarceration and a year of probation, a real but short consequence for a 65-year-old man. FACT: on January 20, 2025, Paul Thomas Brinson received a full pardon from President Trump. Paul Brinson is retirement age. He didn't have to go to Washington that January and he didn't have to walk into that building. But when the FBI sat him down, he corrected the record on himself before the court made him, admitted what he did, served a short sentence, and closed the book on it with a presidential pardon. That's the account, straight from the docket, and it's a more honest one than most people give when they're caught. What this doesn't prove: it doesn't establish his job, his family, or his life in Flower Mound outside this case. What it does prove: he pleaded to two misdemeanors, served 30 days, and was pardoned by name. CASE RECORD Case No. 23-MJ-00267, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
