Narayana C. Rheiner is a Baltimore man whose January 6 case ran nineteen months, cost him fifteen months of his life, and then was wiped out by a full presidential pardon. CONFLICT IN THE RECORD: The January 6 court archive lists Rheiner as 40 years old. Baltimore television reporting at sentencing listed him as 42. This archive does not pick one. Both sources are linked below. The record does not lie, but sometimes it disagrees with itself, and when it does we say so. FACT: Court records say Rheiner told officers inside the Capitol to "stand down and go home." CHARGE ONLY: Prosecutors alleged he tried to pull a riot shield away from an officer at the police line outside the building. He was never convicted of assaulting anyone, and the counts that carried that theory were dismissed. FACT: Online sleuths gave Narayana Rheiner a nickname, "Lynyrd Sinner," and an anonymous online tip connected his photos to a YouTube video labeled "Ryan from Baltimore." That is how the government found him. A man from Baltimore, tracked down by strangers on the internet. THE CASE, PLAINLY CHARGE ONLY: Five counts, led by Civil Disorder. FACT: Rheiner pleaded guilty on November 4, 2022, to one count, Civil Disorder. The other four were dismissed. FACT: On August 22, 2023, he was sentenced to 15 months of incarceration, 36 months of supervised release, $2,000 in restitution, and a $100 special assessment. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Narayana Rheiner received a full pardon. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE No assault conviction. No weapon. The one count Narayana C. Rheiner admitted was interfering with officers during a civil disorder, and that count is now pardoned. THE CASE RECORD Case 1:22-cr-108, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Originally filed as case 1:22-mj-46. Complaint filed March 1, 2022. Arrested March 2, 2022, in Baltimore, Maryland.
