Michael Steven Perkins is a Plant City man out of Hillsborough County, Florida. He is one of the January 6 defendants who never took a deal. He made the government prove it in court. That matters, whatever you think of the outcome. THE LEGAL FIGHT [FACT] Perkins was arrested June 30, 2021. He was 40 at sentencing. [CHARGE ONLY] The government alleged he used a flagpole against officers on the Capitol's west side. Those were the government's allegations. He pleaded not guilty at his July 2021 arraignment and contested them. [FACT] He was initially detained and later released on conditions before trial. [FACT] A superseding indictment issued July 13, 2022. His case was resolved by bench trial in March 2023 rather than by plea, and the court found him guilty. [FACT] He was sentenced August 17, 2023 to four years in federal prison. [FACT] On January 20, 2025 the President issued a proclamation granting full, complete and unconditional pardons to individuals convicted of offenses related to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. Michael Steven Perkins's conviction falls within that grant. [DOCUMENTED INFERENCE] Perkins had served roughly seventeen months of a four year federal sentence when the clemency proclamation issued. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE He was convicted by a judge, not a jury. He never admitted the government's version of events. He has never been convicted of anything in this case beyond what the court found, and the conviction that existed has been pardoned. WHAT IS STILL MISSING Michael Steven Perkins's trade, his service record if he has one, his family and his church are not in any of the public reporting reviewed for this profile. Plant City knows him. His family knows him. The docket does not. This archive wants the rest of the story from the people who have it.
