Michael John Lopatic Sr. was a United States Marine, a combat veteran of Beirut, and a father of five from Manheim Township in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Start there. Not with a charge. With a man. FACT: Filings in his own case state that Lopatic served in the U.S. Marine Corps and saw combat in Beirut, Lebanon. FACT: He was 57 when he was arrested in February 2021. He was married and raising five children in Lancaster County. Now the part the headlines skipped. FACT: Michael Lopatic was never convicted of anything connected to January 6. He was arrested, charged, and released to home detention in April 2021. His trial was set for December 5, 2022, before Senior U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan. FACT: He died in July 2022, months before that trial date. The case ended with no verdict. CHARGE ONLY: Prosecutors alleged he assaulted officers and took an officer body camera. Allegations are not proof. No judge and no jury ever tested them. Michael Lopatic is presumed innocent, permanently, because the government never had to carry its burden. A Marine who deployed to Beirut. A Lancaster County dad of five. Charged, monitored at home for more than a year, and gone before he ever got the trial the Sixth Amendment promised him. Show me the evidence. There is no verdict here. There is only a record that stopped. CASE RECORD Name: Michael John Lopatic Sr., Manheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Court: U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Status: No conviction. Case ended by his death, July 2022. This profile is unclaimed. If this is you, or your family, claiming it is free, forever.
