Matthew Lawrence Stickney is a maintenance technician from Mountlake Terrace, Washington. A tradesman who kept buildings running. And he is one of the few January 6 defendants who pleaded NOT GUILTY and never took it back. FACT: Local Snohomish County reporting documented Stickney's work as a maintenance technician with a real estate company from August 2020 to July 2022. Skilled hands. A trade. A paycheck he earned. THEIR ACCOUNT: His father, asked by reporters about the arrest, called his son "a fine young man with a strong sense of right and wrong." That is a father on the record, under his own name, refusing to walk away from his boy when the cameras showed up. FACT: Matthew Lawrence Stickney pleaded NOT GUILTY to all charges. He did not take a deal. A jury trial was set for April 7, 2025. FACT: On January 21, 2025, the court granted the government's motion to dismiss the case with prejudice. Dismissed with prejudice. It cannot be refiled. Matthew Lawrence Stickney was never convicted of anything arising out of January 6, 2021. He held the line on not guilty and the government folded first. CHARGE ONLY: The complaint alleged five misdemeanor counts tied to entering and remaining, including entering certain rooms in the Capitol. An allegation is not a finding. No jury ever heard one minute of this case. FACT: Court records say he was recorded entering at 2:45 p.m. and exiting at 3:01 p.m. Sixteen minutes, at one point carrying an American flag. THE CASE RECORD Case 1:23-mj-00356-GMH, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. FACT: this case number is read directly off the caption of the native federal court filing, linked below. Statement of facts filed December 15, 2023. Arrested December 20, 2023. Pleaded not guilty to all charges. Dismissed with prejudice January 21, 2025. IDENTITY NOTE: The January 6 court archive lists Stickney's state as Washington with no city. Two independent Snohomish County outlets place Matthew Lawrence Stickney in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, which is the second identifier this archive requires. This profile is unclaimed. If this is you, or your family, claiming it is free, forever.
