Matthew Patrick Kohler is a Northern California man, arrested in San Jose, who paid a five thousand dollar fine and gave up two hundred hours of his life for two petty offenses. Two hundred hours. Five weeks of full time work, handed over. IDENTITY NOTE, and this one matters: Matthew Patrick Kohler is not Matthew Huttle, the Indiana January 6 defendant who was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy in January 2025 and who has been the subject of separate national reporting. Different men, different states, different cases. This archive checked before writing a word. FACT: Matthew Patrick Kohler was arrested on April 25, 2024, in San Jose, California. That is three years and three months after January 6, 2021. CHARGE ONLY: he was charged with four counts, all misdemeanors or petty offenses. Entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds. Disorderly conduct in a restricted building or grounds. Disorderly conduct in a Capitol building. Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. No felony. No assault count. No weapon. THE LEGAL FIGHT FACT: Kohler pleaded guilty to two counts, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. Both are petty offenses. The other two were dismissed. FACT: on November 15, 2024 he was sentenced to 3 years of probation, a $20 special assessment, $500 in restitution, a $5,000 fine, and 200 hours of community service. No incarceration. FACT: on January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Matthew Patrick Kohler received a full pardon. Look at the arithmetic on this one. A five thousand dollar fine and two hundred hours of community service for two petty offenses that carry six month maximums. That is a heavy hand for the lightest charges on the sheet. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: this archive has found no reporting on Kohler's hometown within California, his trade, his service, or his family. The NPR January 6 archive lists his state as California and gives no city. THE CASE RECORD Court: U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Arrested: April 25, 2024, San Jose, California. Pleaded guilty to two petty offenses. Sentenced November 15, 2024. Full pardon, January 20, 2025. This profile is unclaimed. If this is you, or your family, claiming it is free, forever.
