Matthew Brackley is a Waldoboro, Maine man who ran for the Maine State Senate before January 6 put him in a federal courtroom, and a pardon put him back in front of his supporters. In 2022, Matthew ran as the Republican candidate for Maine Senate District 24 on a platform of cutting inflation and taxes, protecting parental rights in education, and election integrity. He lost that race to the incumbent, 58 to 42 percent. FACT, per Ballotpedia's official candidate record. The following July, he was arrested on federal charges tied to January 6, 2021. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced in May 2024 to 15 months in prison. President Trump pardoned him in January 2025. Matthew spoke to a room of supporters at a Republican gathering in Topsham, Maine after his release, telling the crowd plainly, "I'm not proud of that," about pushing past police officers inside the Capitol, while maintaining his right to protest.
