Mario Mares is a 50 year old man from Ballinger, Texas, in Runnels County, ranch country out west of Abilene where a lot of folks carry every day and never think twice about it. Say the fact plainly, and say the limit of the fact just as plainly. FACT: on November 1, 2024 Mario Mares was convicted of two felonies and two misdemeanors. The felonies: entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm on Capitol grounds. The misdemeanors: disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building, and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building. Source: U.S. Attorney news release republished by the Sierra Sun Times, and KTAB Big Country reporting. FACT: the government evidence was that he carried a handgun on his right hip under a camouflage shirt while on Capitol grounds between roughly 12:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on January 6, 2021. FACT, and this one matters more than anything else on this page: there is no allegation in the record that Mario Mares drew a weapon, pointed a weapon, brandished a weapon or fired a weapon. Carrying is not brandishing. This archive does not let a charge grow in the retelling. FACT: he was arrested August 2, 2023 in Ballinger, Texas, and indicted in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. FACT: sentencing was set for February 27, 2025 before Judge Ana C. Reyes. Now watch the calendar. The January 20, 2025 presidential proclamation granting full pardons for offenses related to the events at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 issued five weeks before that sentencing date. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: the final disposition of Mario Mares and his case after the proclamation. This archive has not confirmed it and will not guess at it. Case record: U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: docket number. Arrested August 2, 2023. Convicted November 1, 2024. Sentencing set February 27, 2025. This profile is unclaimed. If this is you, or your family, claiming it is free, forever.
