Lewis Wayne Snoots is a 59 year old man from Louisa, Virginia. Small county, rural Piedmont, the kind of place where everybody knows the last name. He served 71 months on paper and walked out under a presidential pardon. That is the whole arc, and the record carries both halves. THE LEGAL FIGHT. FACT: Lewis Wayne Snoots was arrested on September 5, 2023. FACT: he was charged in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia with Civil Disorder, two counts of Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers, Entering or Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds, Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds, Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds, and an Act of Physical Violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings. FACT: in October 2024 Snoots pleaded guilty to a single count, Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers. FACT: every other charge was dismissed. FACT: on January 17, 2025 he was sentenced to 71 months of incarceration, 36 months of supervised release, $96,927.18 in restitution and a $100 special assessment. THEIR ACCOUNT: his attorney, William Shipley, argued on the record that Snoots was in the Lower West Terrace tunnel for roughly five minutes and that his contact with MPD Officer Michael Fanone "did not result in any injuries." WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE: Snoots was not charged with, and did not plead to, causing Officer Fanone's injuries. Read the plea, not the headline. Misdemeanor is not felony, and proximity is not the same as the act. FACT: on January 20, 2025, three days after that sentencing, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions, and Lewis Wayne Snoots received a full pardon. WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS: a Louisa, Virginia man went from a 71 month sentence to a full pardon in 72 hours. Both are in the file. Neither gets erased. CASE RECORD.
