Lee A. Giobbie is a South Jersey man who spent his career in finance. He is from Eastampton Township, New Jersey, and he held a securities license and ran a brokerage operation. FACT, reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer and trade press covering the industry. He was 41 when this hit. He is an Eagles fan, and everybody in Burlington County knows what that means. Here is the part nobody expected. The FBI identified Lee Giobbie in part because of a throwback Philadelphia Eagles beanie. A hat. Three years of federal investigation, and the thread they pulled was a hat. THE LEGAL FIGHT Lee Giobbie was charged in January 2024. He was left with a single felony count of civil disorder. An earlier obstruction of justice charge was dropped by the government. FACT, per the Inquirer. He pleaded not guilty. He was awaiting trial and presumed innocent. Then something happened that almost never happened in these cases. In January 2025, U.S. District Judge Carl J. Nichols granted Lee Giobbie permission to travel to Washington and attend the presidential inauguration on January 20, 2025, over the objection of the Justice Department. FACT, per the Inquirer, January 17, 2025. A federal defendant awaiting trial for January 6 stood on the Mall on January 20, 2025 with the court's blessing. That same day, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Giobbie's attorney William Shipley had said publicly that his expectation was a move by DOJ to dismiss the case. He pleaded not guilty. The government dropped its obstruction count on its own motion. He briefly entered the building and police stopped him. He was not charged with assaulting an officer.
