Larry John Lucas, Jr. is a 57 year old man from Painesville, Ohio, a Lake County town east of Cleveland on the Grand River. Fourteen minutes. That is how long the government's own records say he was inside the building. He was photographed standing near a statue of Ronald Reagan. That is the case. THE LEGAL FIGHT. FACT: Larry John Lucas, Jr. was arrested on May 17, 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio, more than three years after January 6, 2021. FACT: he was charged in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. FACT: the counts he faced were Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building or Grounds and Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. Misdemeanors. No felony. No assault count. No weapon count. No property damage count. FACT: Lucas pleaded guilty to both counts. FACT: sentencing was set for April 10, 2025. FACT: on January 23, 2025, before that sentencing date ever arrived, the court granted the government's motion to DISMISS THE CASE WITH PREJUDICE. Larry John Lucas, Jr. was never sentenced. Not one day. DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: according to reporting on the charging documents, cell phone location records and photographs placed him inside the Capitol for roughly 14 minutes on the afternoon of January 6. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE: nobody alleged this Painesville, Ohio man hurt anyone, broke anything, or carried a weapon. The charged conduct was walking in a building where he was not supposed to be. The record does not lie, and the record here is thin by design, because that is all there was. FACT: on January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions.
