Kyle Kumer
Pardoned January 6 defendant
Documented editorial-use imageKyle Kumer is a Kansas City, Missouri man who went to Washington on January 6, 2021, with his elderly mother, and whose entire account of that day is about trying to keep her safe. THEIR ACCOUNT: When the FBI interviewed Kumer at his home, he told agents he was in the tunnel to shield his mother. FACT: Court records confirm he was recorded embracing her on the west front and shielding her near the wall inside the tunnel. FACT: Court records also say the two of them remained in the tunnel and pushed against the police line, and were among the last to leave. The government charged that as Civil Disorder. Kyle Kumer said he was protecting his mom. The government said he was part of a push. Both are in the record. This archive prints both and lets you read them side by side. Kumer was 43 years old at the time of his arrest. THE CASE, PLAINLY CHARGE ONLY: Four counts, led by Civil Disorder. FACT: He pleaded guilty to one count, Civil Disorder. The rest were dismissed. FACT: On July 9, 2024, he was sentenced to 10 months incarceration, 24 months of supervised release, $2,000 in restitution, a $100 special assessment, and 50 hours of community service. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Kyle Kumer received a full pardon. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE No weapon charge. No assault conviction. The single count Kyle Kumer admitted was Civil Disorder, not violence against a person. Charges are charges, and dismissed charges are nothing at all.
