Kenneth Christian Paul Schulz is a Dallas, Texas man who walked into the Capitol, stood there about five minutes, and walked back out. Five minutes. That is the case. THE RECORD FACT: Kenneth Schulz of Dallas, Texas was 32 at the time of the federal case. FACT: He sat for an FBI interview on March 29, 2021 and gave his own account. He said he was in Washington on January 6. He said he entered the Capitol through a doorway. He said he was inside about five minutes. Closed circuit video and public photographs reviewed by the FBI matched what he told them. Source: the charging document in his D.C. case, as recorded in the NPR January 6 archive. FACT: He talked to the FBI in March 2021. He was not arrested until March 10, 2023, in Fort Myers, Florida. Two years passed between the interview and the arrest. A man from Dallas gave his own account to federal agents before anybody put him in handcuffs. That is in the record. THE CHARGES, STATED PLAINLY CHARGE ONLY: Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds; Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds; Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; and Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. All misdemeanors. No assault count. No weapon count. Misdemeanor is not felony. THE FIGHT FACT: Kenneth Schulz pleaded guilty to one count, Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other counts were dismissed. FACT: On September 7, 2023 he was sentenced to 18 months of probation, $500 restitution, a $10 special assessment, 50 hours of community service, and 30 days in a residential community correctional facility.
