Dr. Karthik Ramakrishnan is a physician in Bluefield, Virginia, who built a clinic company to serve the rural towns of southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia. FACT: He founded an outpatient clinic business in 2011. National reporting on his January 6 case described that company as "focused on providing excellent care to the rural communities we serve in Virginia and West Virginia." That is Appalachia. That is coal country. Those are the patients other people drive past. FACT: Karthik Ramakrishnan is also a tournament poker player with more than $440,000 in recorded prize winnings. A man who reads people for a living, at the bedside and at the table. He was 45 years old when the federal case landed on him. THE CASE, PLAINLY CHARGE ONLY: Prosecutors charged four counts, all tied to entering and being present in the Capitol on January 6, 2021. FACT: Court records say he was inside for roughly 27 minutes. FACT: Ramakrishnan pleaded guilty to a single count, Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in the Capitol Building. Every other charge was dismissed. FACT: On December 14, 2023, he was sentenced to 6 months of probation, a $500 fine, $500 in restitution, and a $10 special assessment. No prison. A petty offense. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Karthik Ramakrishnan received a full pardon. WHAT THE RECORD DOES NOT SAY It does not say he hurt anyone. It does not say he carried a weapon. It does not say he broke anything. Read the charging document yourself. It is linked on this page.
