Justin Jersey is a Flint, Michigan man who was 31 years old when federal agents came to his door. Flint is a hard town that raised hard workers, and Justin Jersey is one of its own. He spent more than three years in federal custody, from his arrest in December 2021 until a presidential pardon in January 2025. He did that time. Then he came home. THE LEGAL FIGHT. FACT: Justin Jersey was arrested on December 2, 2021. FACT: he was indicted on November 17, 2021 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Inflicting Bodily Injury on Certain Officers and Aiding and Abetting, Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers Using a Dangerous Weapon, Civil Disorder, Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon, and an Act of Physical Violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings. FACT: Jersey pleaded guilty to ONE count, Inflicting Bodily Injury on Certain Officers. FACT: every other charge was dismissed. FACT: on February 10, 2023 he was sentenced to 51 months of imprisonment with credit for time served, 36 months of supervised release, a $100 special assessment and $32,165.65 in restitution. FACT: federal prosecutors themselves had asked for no more than 61 months. DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: online sleuths nicknamed him "fingerman" from video footage before agents identified him. That nickname followed him through every story written about him. It is a label, not a fact about the man. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE: six of the seven counts against Justin Jersey were dropped. He was never tried on them and never convicted of them. Charges are charges. FACT: on January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Justin Jersey received a full pardon. CASE RECORD. Case 1:21-cr-35, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The DOJ press releases and the CourtListener charging document are linked below.
