Joseph Pavlik gave the city of Chicago thirty three years of running toward fire. That is the first thing anybody should know about him. FACT: Pavlik served as a Chicago firefighter for 33 years and retired in 2013. He was 66 years old at the time of his sentencing. Source: Chicago Sun-Times, December 1, 2023. Thirty three years of alarms at three in the morning. Thirty three years of walking into buildings while everybody else was walking out. Chicago called and Joseph Pavlik went. Over and over, for three decades, until the job had taken everything a body has to give. That is a career most people cannot imagine and will never have to. THE LEGAL FIGHT FACT: A criminal complaint was filed January 20, 2023. Pavlik was arrested January 31, 2023. FACT: He pleaded guilty in August 2023 to civil disorder. FACT: He was sentenced December 1, 2023 to two months incarceration and six months home confinement. Prosecutors asked the court for 13 months. The court gave him a fraction of what the government wanted. THEIR ACCOUNT: His attorney, Lawrence Beaumont, told the court that Pavlik had been misled about the day and understood his role at the rally to be closer to that of an usher. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump issued clemency covering January 6 defendants. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: An individual clemency certificate for Joseph Pavlik has not been located in the records reviewed here. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE Nothing in a federal docket erases thirty three years of service to the people of Chicago. Both things sit in the record. Both things are true. The record does not lie, and the record includes the firehouse.
