HIS STORY FACT: Jorge Riley was an officer and activist with the California Republican Assembly, a volunteer grassroots organization, and was a known figure in Sacramento Republican politics well before January 6. CBS Sacramento and WUSA9 both identified him by that role. FACT: He is from Sacramento, California, and was arrested in the Eastern District of California rather than in Washington. HIS FIGHT FACT: Jorge Aaron Riley was arrested January 19, 2021 and indicted February 3, 2021 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He pleaded not guilty to counts one through five on February 25, 2021 and remained free on personal recognizance, not in a cell, while his case moved. FACT: He later entered a guilty plea in the case. WUSA9 and the Sacramento press reported the plea in March 2023. FACT: In 2024 Riley asked the court for a clean slate, citing the Supreme Court decision in Fischer v.
