Jonathan Ace Sanders Sr. is a United States Air Force veteran from Vincennes, Indiana, and at 61 years old he stood up in federal court and answered for one misdemeanor. He wore the uniform of this country. He came home to a small Indiana river town. He never spent a day in prison over January 6. FACT: Jonathan Ace Sanders Sr. of Vincennes, Indiana is an Air Force veteran and was 61 years old at sentencing (Air Force Times, November 28, 2021; WTHR). FACT: He drove to Washington on January 5, 2021 to attend a rally (Air Force Times). FACT: Three charges against him were dropped. He pleaded guilty to one count, parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building (Air Force Times; DOJ). FACT: On November 4, 2021, U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols sentenced Sanders to three years probation, $500 restitution, and 60 hours of community service within six months. Judge Nichols denied the government request for two months of home detention (Air Force Times; DOJ). THE STORY AND THE SERVICE Vincennes is the oldest town in Indiana, sitting on the Wabash. Jonathan Ace Sanders Sr. is an Air Force veteran of that town. Prosecutors used his service against him and argued a veteran should have known better. The judge heard it and still gave him probation, no home detention. Sixty hours of community service. That is the sentence. A veteran giving back hours to his community. FACT: On January 20, 2025 the President issued a proclamation granting clemency in cases relating to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE: Sanders was never charged with violence or assault. One petty misdemeanor. That is the whole federal conviction. THE CASE RECORD Case number 1:21-cr-384.
