Jonathan Gennaro Mellis is a Williamsburg, Virginia man. Hampton Roads. Tidewater. A man with people who never stopped speaking his name out loud while he was locked up. That is the first thing to know about Jonathan Mellis. He was not forgotten. While he sat in pretrial detention, his girlfriend stood up at the Justice for J6 rally in Washington and spoke for him in public, in front of cameras, with Newsweek in the room. Most detainees in this archive did not have that. He did. WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS FACT: Jonathan Gennaro Mellis is from Williamsburg, Virginia, per 13News Now, WAVY, and the Roanoke Times. FACT: He was arrested February 26 and indicted March 10, 2021, per the DOJ record. FACT: He was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to all counts on March 23, 2021. FACT: He was held pretrial and sought release, telling the court he would be on his best behavior, per Courthouse News. FACT: He was sentenced to 51 months for assaulting officers, per 13News Now, WAVY, the Roanoke Times, and a Justice Department press release. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: Between arrest in February 2021 and the end of a 51 month sentence, Jonathan Mellis spent years of his life in custody. He was arrested before most Americans had been vaccinated and he was still inside years later. CHARGE ONLY and NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: After his release, advocacy outlets including American Gulag and the Gateway Pundit reported in December 2024 that Jonathan Mellis faces a Virginia state proceeding over an older suspended sentence, with the reports describing exposure of up to ten more years under a Virginia good behavior provision. This archive publishes post January 6 matters rather than hiding them, and labels them honestly. This one has NOT been verified against a Virginia court docket in this run. It is an allegation reported by advocacy media, not a finding. Jonathan Gennaro Mellis is presumed innocent of any matter no court has decided. THE LEGAL FIGHT Charges, per the DOJ record: Civil Disorder; Obstruction of an Official Proceeding and Aiding and Abetting; Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers Using a Dangerous Weapon; Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon; Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon; Impeding Ingress and Egress in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon; Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon; Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; Impeding Passage Through the Capitol Grounds or Buildings; Act of Physical Violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE: The dangerous weapon language in these counts is charging language. It is not a finding on every count. Read the counts as counts.
