Joei Leann Gallman is a small-business owner from Fountain Inn, South Carolina. She and her husband William run a metal fabrication shop in the Upstate that keeps three people on full-time payroll and brings on more when the work comes in. That is who she is. Not a headline. A woman who signs paychecks in a small South Carolina town. THE BUSINESS FACT: Joei Gallman and her husband William John Wyatt Gallman own a small fabrication business together in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. According to court filings in their case, the business employs three full-time workers and contracts additional staff as needed. (Source: The State / AOL, August 2023, reporting from the sentencing record.) FACT: The fabrication trade behind that shop is welding and computer-aided design work, and per the court filings her husband built that skill set largely self-taught. Small shop. Real trade. Real jobs in Fountain Inn. FACT: Joei Leann Gallman was 42 at the time of the case. (Source: NPR January 6 case database; Post and Courier.) WHAT THE RECORD SAYS ABOUT THAT DAY FACT: Joei Gallman was charged with ONE count: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. A misdemeanor. The lowest charge in the entire January 6 charging book. FACT: She was not accused of assaulting police. She was not accused of vandalizing the building. (Source: Post and Courier, October 2022.) FACT: Court documents state that the Gallmans gave voluntary interviews to the FBI, confirmed they had entered the Capitol, and allowed investigators to photograph the clothing they wore that day. They cooperated. Nobody had to chase them. FACT: Court filings and press coverage of the sentencing record state that her husband William was recorded on video picking up velvet rope and stanchions other people had knocked over and standing them back up inside the building. His lawyer put it this way: "the video showed he even picked up some velvet rope and poles that others had knocked over and put them back upright." The judge gave the couple probation instead of the jail time prosecutors asked for. THE SENTENCE AND THE PARDON FACT: Joei Gallman pleaded guilty to the single parading count and was sentenced to 18 months of probation, a $1,000 fine, 50 hours of community service, $500 in restitution, and a $10 special assessment. No incarceration. CONFLICT NOTED: Sources differ on the exact sentencing date. The NPR case database, built from federal court records, records August 21, 2023. The State and Post and Courier report August 22, 2023. We state the conflict rather than pick a side. FACT: Joei Leann Gallman received a FULL PARDON on January 20, 2025. THE RECORD U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, docket 1:22-cr-252253 series. Arrested September 27, 2022, and released on bond the same period.
