FACT: on January 6 he recorded video and streamed on Facebook from the Capitol, repeatedly turning the camera around to show his own face. A man trying to hide does not point the lens at himself on a livestream. FACT: he was arrested January 20, 2021, two weeks after January 6, with an initial appearance the same day. FACT: published case summaries note no evidence that Jesus Rivera engaged in any violence. FACT: his documentary filming equipment was seized in connection with the case. Say that part slow. THE LEGAL FIGHT FACT: Jesus Delmora Rivera was the first person from Northwest Florida to take a January 6 case to trial. He did not plead. He made them prove it. He kept fighting after the sentence came down. FACT: on January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE: it does not overturn the verdict. WHAT IT DOES PROVE: a man who went to document a day ended up serving eight months over four misdemeanors, and the camera he used to record it was taken.
