Jeremy Michael Brown
January 6 defendant
Jeremy Michael Brown of Tampa, Florida is a retired U.S. Army Special Forces Master Sergeant. Twenty years in uniform. A Green Beret. Before any of this, he was the guy the Army sent when the job was hard. After twenty years he came home to Florida and ran for Congress. THE SERVICE FACT: Jeremy Brown served twenty years in the United States Army and retired as a Master Sergeant in Army Special Forces. (Source: WUSF Public Media, February 25, 2025; Military.com, April 10, 2023.) FACT: He is a Green Beret. Special Forces qualification is not handed out. It is earned through one of the hardest selection and training pipelines the U.S. military operates. FACT: Brown ran as a Republican candidate for Congress in Florida 14th district. In his own public posting he described himself as a "retired Green Beret that ran for Fl-14." (THEIR ACCOUNT, quoted in the federal charging document and the NPR case database.) FACT: U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis wrote a letter in support of Brown. (Source: Yahoo News / Tampa Bay news coverage.) THE JANUARY 6 CASE CHARGE ONLY: Knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds. Two misdemeanors. That is the entire January 6 charge sheet against Jeremy Brown. FACT: According to the court documents themselves, the FBI never placed Jeremy Brown inside the Capitol building. (Source: federal charging document, summarized in the NPR case database.) FACT: He was arrested September 30, 2021. He pleaded NOT GUILTY to both counts. A bench trial was set for February 13, 2025. FACT: On January 21, 2025, the court granted the government motion to dismiss the January 6 case WITH PREJUDICE. No conviction. No sentence. It cannot be refiled. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. THE SEPARATE FLORIDA CASE NEEDS AUTHENTICATION / CHARGE AND CONVICTION, SEPARATE MATTER: During the January 6 investigation, agents searched Brown home in Tampa. He was later convicted by a federal jury in Tampa on weapons counts and unlawful retention of classified material, and in April 2023 was sentenced to seven years and three months. (Source: Military.com; U.S. Attorney, Middle District of Florida.) FACT: On February 25, 2025, the Justice Department filed a court document concluding that the presidential pardon of Jeremy Brown also covers that Florida conviction. The U.S. Attorney office said it reached that determination after consulting Justice Department leadership. (Source: WUSF Public Media; Tampa Bay Times, February 25, 2025.) WHAT IT DOES PROVE A twenty-year Green Beret from Tampa was charged with two misdemeanors, was never placed inside the building by the FBI, never stood trial, and watched the case die with prejudice.
