Jay Robert Thaxton
January 6 defendant
Documented editorial-use imageJay Robert Thaxton is a man from Concord, North Carolina, a Cabarrus County city just northeast of Charlotte. He was 49 when federal agents came for him, three and a half years after January 6, 2021. His case is the one in this batch that has not been put to bed in the public record. So we are going to say exactly that, and no more. THE MAN AND THE PLACE FACT: Jay Robert Thaxton of Concord, North Carolina was 49 at the time of his arrest. NPR case records list his age as 49 or 50. We note the conflict rather than pick a number. (Source: NPR January 6 case database, compiled from federal court records; Law and Crime, June 2024.) FACT: He was arrested on June 4, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina. That is three years, four months and twenty-nine days after January 6, 2021. FACT: Press reporting on the case states he served at one point as vice president of a North Carolina chapter of the Proud Boys. (Source: Law and Crime; QCNews Charlotte.) THE CHARGES, AND ONLY THE CHARGES CHARGE ONLY, NEVER PROVEN: Civil Disorder; Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds. Federal press reporting also lists Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds, Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building, and Obstructing or Impeding Passage in a Capitol Building. CHARGE ONLY: Prosecutors alleged that Thaxton moved to the front of the crowd and worked a metal fence anchored in concrete until it gave way. That is a government allegation in a charging document, not a finding by any court. FACT: No verdict has been reported in this case. No sentence has been reported in this case. WHERE IT STANDS DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: As of the most recent federal court records reflected in the NPR January 6 database, the government had filed a request for dismissal in this case and that request remained PENDING. We could not confirm a final disposition from a native docket entry, so we do not claim one. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Hundreds of pending January 6 cases were dismissed with prejudice in the days that followed, including several in this archive on January 21, 22, 24 and 27, 2025. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: Whether Jay Robert Thaxton case was dismissed on that same wave requires the native docket. If you have the judgment or the dismissal order, send it and we will publish it. THE PRESUMPTION Jay Robert Thaxton is presumed innocent of every charge listed above. Nothing in this record overcomes that presumption. Charges are charges. THE RECORD U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, docket 1:24-cr-269126 series. Charging document on file at CourtListener. Arrested June 4, 2024. Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Show me the docket. That is all this page is asking for, and it is asking on his behalf, not against him. This profile is unclaimed. If this is you, or your family, claiming it is free, forever.
