Jason Douglas Owens is a Texas man from Blanco, out in the Hill Country west of Austin. He went to Washington with his son. Here is what the record shows. FACT: Jason Douglas Owens was arrested April 16, 2021 and made his initial appearance April 19, 2021. FACT: A superseding indictment was filed November 17, 2021 charging nine counts, including civil disorder, assaulting or resisting officers, entering a restricted building and grounds, disorderly conduct, and acts of violence on Capitol grounds. FACT: He pleaded not guilty on December 3, 2021. FACT: On November 10, 2022 Owens pleaded guilty to one count, assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers. Eight counts went away. FACT: On June 23, 2023 he was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment followed by 36 months of supervised release, a $2,000 fine, and $2,000 restitution. FACT: He served that time at the federal camp at FCI Bastrop, in his own home state of Texas. He did not run. He did not take it to trial and blame somebody else. He pleaded to it and he served it. FACT: His son, Grady Douglas Owens, an adult, was charged in the same events and prosecuted separately.
