Jared Paul Cantrell is a 38 year old man from Indianapolis, Indiana who went to Washington with two of his cousins and came home a federal defendant. He took his case to trial. He beat one of the counts. He still went to prison for six months. THEIR ACCOUNT. This is Jared Paul Cantrell in his own words, posted on Facebook on January 7, 2021 and quoted in the government's own filing: "I do not think I broke any laws. I have not been to the Capitol before and was a big reason I went in the first place. I didn't go over any barricades or push through any police. They were letting folks in and at no point was there any verbal Indication from any authority to not go in." He also wrote, per the same filing, "I was one of the first 50 in." FACT: on January 6, 2021 Cantrell attended the rally alongside his cousins Eric Cantrell of Indianapolis and Quentin Cantrell of Greenwood, then walked to the Capitol. Investigators described him in a dark Carhartt coat with a Goruck hydration tube over his right shoulder. CCTV showed him walking through the building. His cousins left about two minutes after entering. FACT: multiple tipsters turned him in after seeing his own social media posts. He was arrested March 10, 2022. THE LEGAL FIGHT, and he actually fought it FACT: Jared Paul Cantrell pleaded not guilty to all charges and went to a bench trial. FACT: on April 4, 2023 the court found him guilty on three counts and NOT GUILTY on one count, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a U.S. Capitol building or grounds. He beat a count at trial. FACT: on June 26, 2023 he was sentenced to 6 months of incarceration, 12 months of supervised release, 4 months of home incarceration, a $60 special assessment, $500 in restitution, an $8,000 fine, and 100 hours of community service. All three Cantrell cousins were sentenced the same day. Jared drew the heaviest of the three by a wide margin. FACT: on January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. Cantrell received a full pardon. Six months and an eight thousand dollar fine for four misdemeanor counts, one of which he beat. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: American Gulag reports no donation campaign was ever raised for Jared Cantrell. This archive found no reporting on his trade, his service, or his family in Indianapolis. THE CASE RECORD Case 1:22-mj-51, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
